Kuntz Promoted to Associate Head Coach

Aug. 23, 2010

After five years as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at UMass Lowell, Marc Kuntz has been promoted to Associate Head Coach, as announced on Monday.

Kuntz’s primary responsibilities include recruiting, scouting and player development, while he also oversees daily operations of the program, including alumni and community outreach efforts, academics and scheduling.

“Marc is as good a young basketball coach as I have been around in a long time,” said Head Coach Greg Herenda. “He does so much for our program, our players and for me. He truly is so much more than an assistant coach and is very deserving of this title.”

The Monroe, Conn. native is a graduate of Xavier University, where he was a student manager for the men’s basketball team and received his degree in sports management.

Upon graduation, he served as an assistant at Norwich University (2000-03) and Wilmington (OH) College (2003-04) before being named head coach at Wilmington in 2004.  He came to UMass Lowell in 2005 and has worked with the River Hawks ever since.

The River Hawks are coming off a 20-12 clip in 2009-10, after capturing the 2010 Northeast-10 Conference Championship after surging through the conference tournament.
