Boris and MacKenzie Tabbed as Northeast-10 Player and Freshman of the Week

Sophomore P/DP Elyssa Boris (Gardner, MA) was named Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week, while freshman 2B Krista MacKenzie (Ipswich, MA) was honored as the NE-10 Freshman of the Week, as the duo helped the River Hawks to a 7-2 week that included a sweep of Bentley and Saint Rose, splits with American International and Le Moyne, along with a non-conference victory over Tufts.

Boris batted .414 (12-29) on the week, tallying 14 RBI and blasting four homeruns during the week. Her season total rose to 11 homeruns, breaking the UMass Lowell record, which was previously set at nine in 2006 by Stacey Lajoie.

Boris is batting .302 on the year, tallying 27 RBI and amassing a .689 slugging percentage. On the mound, she has a team-best 3.23 ERA and an 8-9 record in 31 appearances. She has thrown eight complete games and struck out a team-best 76 batters. She is holding opponents to a .268 batting average, as well.

MacKenzie went 15-30 on the week, batting .500 through the nine-game span. She knocked in six RBI and scored 13 runs, tallying a pair of doubles in a 12-7 victory over American International on Thursday.

She has amassed a team-best .434 batting average in 32 games and has crossed the plate 28 times on the year. She has tallied 21 RBI and has a .515 slugging percentage. MacKenzie has struck out just 11 times on the year and has earned a .464 on base percentage. The infielder has also made just five errors on the year and is fielding .951.

The River Hawks sit at 21-22 on the year with a 13-11 mark in conference action. They will return to the diamond on Tuesday, April 27 for a doubleheader against Franklin Pierce to kick off an eight-game homestand to cap the 2010 regular season.
