The River Hawk hockey club (1-3-2, 1-3-0 Hockey East) laces up the skates for the finale of its home-and-home series with #5 Boston University (5-0-1, 3-0-1 HE) at 7 p.m. on Saturday night in the Agganis Arena. The Terriers won the first leg on Friday night, 5-1, in the Tsongas Center.
UMass Lowell's lone goal came off the stick of sophomore Joe Caveney (Fitchburg, Mass.) late in the third period. Caveney received the puck from Josh Holmstrom (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Michael Budd (Burlington, Ont.) for the rebound score.
Boston University put the game out-of-reach early with a four-goal outburst in the second period. Even more crucial to the outcome, the Terriers potted two short-handed goals to sour the River Hawks' power play.
UMass Lowell trails in the all-time series between the teams, 18-65-8. In addition, the River Hawks are just 7-33-3 when playing at Boston University's home site.
For the season, reigning HE Freshman of the Week Chad Ruhwedel (San Diego, Calif.) leads UMass Lowell in scoring. The rookie blue-liner has six points on a goal and five assists. Ruhwedel also holds a team-best plus-4 rating.
Forwards Riley Wetmore (Swanton, Vt.) and Holmstrom are close behind with four points each. Wetmore has two goals and two assists, while Holmstrom has four helpers.
The River Hawks will have little chance to rest after tonight's contest, traveling to Boston College on Tuesday for a battle with the defending National Champions at 7 p.m.
