UMass Lowell hockey (1-2-2, 1-2-0 Hockey East) plays host to Boston University (4-0-1, 2-0-1 HE) on Friday night at 7 p.m. in the Tsongas Center. As a part of a home-and-home series, the teams will rematch on Saturday in the Agganis Arena.
Fans are encouraged to "White Out" the Tsongas Center on Friday by wearing white to the game. To help in the effort, Moe's Southwest Grill will be donating white t-shirts to students who attend the game.
In addition, Olympic Gold Medalist and College Hockey National Champion Jim Craig will be in attendance to support his nephew, Craig Charron, who recently passed away after a brave battle with stomach cancer.
Craig will sign photos for fans that make a donation to Sharky's Fight, Charron's charitable foundation, during the first intermission. A signed 1980 USA Hockey Jersey, signed hardcover cover of America's Athletes, and three 8x10 signed photos of Craig in action for the Boston Bruins will also be auctioned off with all proceeds benefiting Sharky's Fight.
The Terriers lead the all-time series between the teams, 64-18-8. In addition, the River Hawks are 11-25-5 when playing in Lowell. Despite the perceived lack of home-ice advantage, the gap has narrowed since the opening of the Tsongas Center, as UMass Lowell trails just 7-10-2.
Last season Boston University took two out of the three meetings with UMass Lowell, but all three contests were decided by one goal.
Among active River Hawks, Maury Edwards (Rocky Rapids, Alta.) has had the most success against the Terriers, scoring six goals and five assists in 13 career games.
Currently, UMass Lowell is led offensively by blue-liner Chad Ruhwedel (San Diego, Calif.). The reigning HE Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week, Ruhwedel has six points on one goal and five assists.
Right behind Ruhwedel is sophomore alternate captain Riley Wetmore (Swanton, Vt.). The crafty forward has two goals, including the game-winner against Providence, and two assists on the campaign.
Regardless of tonight's result, the two clubs will rematch tomorrow at the Agganis Arena at 7 p.m.
