The UMass Lowell volleyball team struggled to a 3-1 loss to Bridgeport University on Friday night, dropping their second game of the day. The River Hawks were led by junior outside-hitter Vicky Wong (Tewksbury, MA) who tallied 11 kills and a team-high 16 digs.
The match scores were 20-25, 25-15, 23-25 and 15-25.
Back-to-back losses on day one of the Bridgeport Tournament move the River Hawks to 1-3 on the season. The Purple Knights jump to 3-1 with the win.
Junior Jillian Hadder (Yucaipa, CA) did her best to turn the tide, hitting a team-best 14 kills while adding eight digs. Hadder and Wong were joined offensively by senior Elsa LeGrand (Highlands Ranch, CO) who landed 11 kills and seven digs.
Coordinating the attack was the reigning Northeast-10 Setter of the Week Nichole Rondeau (Dracut, Ma) with 39 assists and 12 digs. The match was her second highest assist total thus far this season, Rondeau dished out 43 against Franklin Pierce on August 29, 2009.
Senior Allie Eide (Gresham, OR) followed her 20 dig performance earlier in the afternoon with 15 more digs against Bridgeport.
UMass Lowell will look to turn the weekend around with two more matches tomorrow starting at 11 a.m. as they take on Caldwell, followed by a battle with Holy Family at 1 p.m.
