Jeffery Danso, a senior from Worcester, MA (Burncoat H.S.), was named the UMass Lowell/Lowell Five Cent Savings Bank Athlete of the Week Tuesday after leading the UMass Lowell men's soccer team to a 3-2 double overtime triumph over No. 15 Dowling last week.
Danso set up UMass Lowell's first goal, a cross to junior F Stephen Potcner (Wilmington, MA) in the 10th minute, which gave the River Hawks a 1-0 lead. He then scored the game-winner with just 1:18 left in double overtime, slotting home Potcner's diving header from the left side.
Danso is fresh off five goals and five assists in 21 appearances in 2008.
UMass Lowell (1-1, 0-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference), ranked No. 22 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), opens Northeast-10 Conference play Saturday at home against New Haven (1:00).
A criminal justice major, Danso is the son of Afua and Antwi Danso of Worcester.

The UMass Lowell Athlete of the Week is selected by the four members of University's Athletic Media Relations office.
