Sophomore M Maddy Bissaillon (Merrimac, MA) scored one goal and set up another as UMass Lowell defeated Bentley University, 3-0, Tuesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer tilt at Cushing Field.
The victory extended UMass Lowell's unbeaten streak to 10 games, as well as its shutout string to nine games and 942 minutes. The River Hawks improved to 9-2-2 overall and 8-1-1 in the NE-10 and host Le Moyne Saturday at 1:00.
Bentley slipped to 4-6-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the NE-10 and visits Southern Connecticut Saturday at 1:00.
Senior G Jamie Gillis (North Billerica, MA) stopped three shots en route to the 33rd clean sheet of her career as her and the River Hawk defense fought to keep the shutout streak alive, particularly late on.
In the 87th minute, junior F Nikki Adelman (Penn Valley, PA) had two shots blocked just outside the six-yard box, while the rebound off the second went to freshman M Laura Muise (Newburyport, MA) whose attempt was snuffed by Gillis.
Sophomore F Katelyn McHugh (Winchester, MA) opened the scoring in the 28th minute when junior F Brianne Bozzella (Wilmington, MA) cut down the left flank and crossed through the crease, which McHugh sidefooted home.
UMass Lowell doubled its lead a minute from the half when freshman F Julia Donigian (Wakefield, MA) fed Bissaillon just inside the 18-yard box from the touchline. Bissaillon settled and chipped a shot over Bentley goalkeeper Kara Smith (West Springfield, MA) just inside the top right 90.
In the 52nd, Bissaillon released senior F Kelly Soper (Auburn, MA) on a breakaway with a volley, which Soper tucked inside the far post from the right side of the box.
UMass Lowell outshot the Falcons 22-8 overall and 8-3 on target. Smith had four saves for Bentley in 65 minutes while junior G Miranda Charles (Jersey Shore, PA) had one save over the final 25 minutes.
