LOWELL - Senior Anthony Gallardo (Methuen, MA) was named the Northeast-10 Conference Golfer of the Week Wednesday after a stellar showing at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at The Captains Golf Club Monday and Tuesday.
Gallardo shot a 79 for the first round on Monday and came back with a sterling 68 Tuesday to finish even with Matt Belizze of Sacred Heart, who earned medalist honors with a 76-71--147. Belizze birdied the first hole in the playoff, which included Gallardo, Pat Fillian of Sacred Heart (72-75) and Alex Daley of Bryant University (76-71).
Gallardo's round of 68 was two strokes shy of tying The Captains Port Course record and one stroke shy of the individual low of 67 (by junior Brendan Livingston of Westford, MA) since the golf program was reinstated in 2004.
Livingston was named to the NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll as he placed in a tie for 46th as he shot an 81 for the first round and a 77 Tuesday for a 158.
UMass Lowell capped the fall season with a won-loss record of 38-17-4 in Division II head-to-head competitions.
