Seniors Jeremy Dehner (Madison, WI) and Carter Hutton (Thunder Bay, Ont.) were named Second-Team All Stars by the Hockey East Association on Thursday at the conference's annual banquet in Boston. Dehner and Hutton were key members of the River Hawks' defense that surrendered the fewest goals per game in the conference (2.36).

"We had the best team defense in Hockey East and that is an area you can control," said head coach Blaise MacDonald. "They were absolutely the two keys guys to our performance defensively."

Dehner led all UMass Lowell skaters with a plus 15 rating while quarterbacking the River Hawk defense. The three-year alternate captain finished seventh on the team in scoring with 21 points on six goals and 15 assists.

"Jeremy played against our opponents' best players every game," MacDonald said. "He logged huge minutes and was really the key cog to our entire team."

Finishing his career as the third highest scoring Division I defenseman in school history with 79 points, Dehner was noted for his calming and cerebral demeanor on the ice.

Hutton played his way onto the second-team after finishing the season with the best overall goals against average (2.04) and save percentage (.928) in the conference. In league action, Hutton ranked second in save percentage (.920) and third in goals against average (2.35). The Ontario native also led all Hockey East netminders with four shutouts.

"Carter capped off his senior season with outstanding play in net," said MacDonald. "He gave our team a chance to win every single night and really added an offensive transitional dimension to our game."

Finishing out his career with three stellar games in Maine, Hutton has cemented his legacy with the program after breaking three UMass Lowell records this season. He is now the River Hawks' all-time career leader in shutouts (10), goals against average (2.33) and tied with Nevin Hamilton (Ashland, MA) for career save percentage (.913). In addition, Hutton also set the program's single season record for save percentage.

UMass Lowell also received Ben Holmstrom's (Colorado Springs, CO) Gladiator Hockey Best Defensive Forward and Hutton's Bauer Goaltending Champion awards that were announced on Wednesday.
