Ian Burgess has served as the Assistant Director of Athletic Operations at UMass Lowell since July 2022.
In his role, Ian oversees equipment procurement, inventory systems, branding alignment, and event management for UMass Lowell’s athletic programs. He also assists in the management of university partnerships, leads student gameday event staff, and serves as a liaison to vendors and department leadership.
Before joining UMass Lowell, Ian held operational leadership roles at the University of New Haven and Saint Anselm College, where he managed large-scale event logistics, supervised student staff, coordinated NCAA postseason tournaments, and enhanced facility scheduling and safety procedures.
Ian’s early experience—including student event management roles at Colby-Sawyer College and a game operations internship with the Pawtucket Red Sox—established a strong foundation in event execution, customer service, and high-volume operational support.
Ian is a member of both the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association (CEFMA) and the Athletic Equipment Managers’ Association (AEMA).
A native of Pomfret, Conn., Ian holds both a Master of Science in Sport Management (‘24) from the University of New Haven and a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management from Colby-Sawyer College (’19). Ian currently resides in Billerica, MA with his fiancée, Amy.
