Clint Whelan

Clint Whelan is in his first season as an assistnat coach with the River Hawk women's volleyball program. Whelan's primary focus with the River Hawks will be to assist with practice and match preparations and recruiting efforts, in addition to working closely with the team's setters. He began his duties at UMass Lowell on Tuesday, July 1st.

Whelan spent the last two seasons as Newbury College (Div. III), as head coach of the men's and women's programs. He was named New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Women's Coach of the Year in 2013.  He helped guide the women's program to a 12-4 conference record in his two seasons at the helm of the program.

Prior to Newbury, he served as an assistant coach at Adelphi University for one season (2011), assisting with recruiting efforts, practice preparation and specialized coaching with the team's setters. Whelan was also an assistant coach at Webber International University in 2010.

He graduated in 2008 from Rivier University with a bachelor's degree in business management. Whelan played volleyball for three seasons for the Raiders and he helped guide the team to two North East Collegiate Volleyball Association (NECVA) North Championships, Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC) and Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships. He still competes in beach volleyball tournaments across the nation including East End, Dig the Beach, Newport and AVP barefoot. He is coaching certified for USA Indoor and Beach Volleyball IMPACT.
