(1982) - At Lowell Textile, Joseph Hardman was a four year letterman in both football and basketball. A two-way player on the gridiron. Hardman was outstanding on both offense and defense. Many a Textile victory came as a result of his catching touchdown passes from his end position or was preserved by his sure-handed tackling defensive line. Nicknamed [quote]Jumping Joe,[quote] Hardman was captain of the 1931 football team. Hardman also turned in some fine performances for the basketball squad.

Hardman was quite active with a number of civic groups in the area. A past president of the Lowell Rotary Club, he was also involved with the Lowell Community Council of United Fund, Lowell YMCA, Westlands Improvement Association, and the Lowell Rehabilitation Center.
