A joint venture with the City of Lowell and the University led to the construction and completion in 1998 of the Paul E. Tsongas Arena and the Edward A. LeLacheur Park on the University’s north campus.
Sold to the University on Oct. 30, 2009, and renamed The Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell, the Center has since undergone dramatic changes, including the addition of the Lowell Bank Pavilion restaurant; a new jumbotron scoreboard with video replay capability; fascia display boards on either side; and the Hall of Fame, NCAA Champions and Legends of Lowell displays on the north side of the concourse.
Not only is the Tsongas Center home to the UMass Lowell Division I hockey team, it is also a facility which attracts many concerts, sporting events and functions.
