River Hawks Celebrate Alumni Day

LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell field hockey team celebrated its past, present and future during the program's 2026 Alumni Day on Sunday, September 20.

Over 40 alums, along with many friends and family attended the day's events. In addition to a pregame tailgate, many of the alumni children joined the current River Hawks during the walkout prior to their game against Stonehill.

"Alumni Day is always my favorite day of the year," said Head Coach Shannon LeBlanc. "Our alumni group is the best and I mean THE BEST! They all come from different eras of our program, but they all bring an incredible amount of passion and energy. I love seeing the hugs of former teammates, the storytelling and genuine joy that the day brings."

Following the game, all attendees were welcome to attend a post-game reception inside the Kennedy Family Athletic Complex. The speaking program, which included LeBlanc and Director of Athletics Lynn Coutts, was highlighted by Candace Balbo '07, who reminisced about the team's 2006 Northeast 10 Championship run in honor of the 20^th anniversary of the accomplishment.

"A special thank you to Candace Balbo, who finished the day at our reception with a fantastic speech to honor the 20^th anniversary of the 2006 NE10 Championship," concluded LeBlanc. "I'm so grateful for our alumni group. They have built a legacy that is unmatched."
