5/29/2026 12:00:00 PM

Looking to build off the successes of the previous two seasons, the UMass Lowell women’s lacrosse team battled through a plethora of injuries throughout a challenging, 16-game schedule. Ahead of the season, Head Coach Lisa Miller announced the addition of 12 newcomers, while also naming graduate student Elsa Skinner (Annapolis, Md.), senior Audra Hansen (Stamford, Ct.), and juniors Alexa Kuhn (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and Emily Dodd (Calgary, Alberta) as the four team captains for the season.

UML 13, Manhattan 6 - Recap

Looking to start the season off on the right foot, the River Hawks wasted no time getting on the board, as freshman Brienne Brezynskie (Elmira, Ontario) scored her first career goal less than three minutes in to give her squad an early lead. Although Manhattan scored the next two goals, the UMass Lowell offense surged to life, scoring eight of the next nine goals, highlighted by three from junior Chloe Bowers (Whitefish Bay, Wis.), to take a commanding 9-3 lead at the half. In the second half, the River Hawks continued to apply the pressure to pull away for a 13-6 victory.

UML 11, UMBC 10 (OT) – Recap

With a goal to capture their first conference win of the season, the River Hawks faced an early 3-0 deficit, but refused to back down, as junior Macy Shultz (Adams, N.Y.), senior Kaitlynn Anderson (Winnipeg, Manitoba), and senior Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) all scored to knot it up. Although UMBC scored four straight to take a 7-3 lead in the third, UMass Lowell caught fire, scoring seven of the next ten goals, including one by Lydon with under two minutes to play, to tie the game up at 10-10 and send it to overtime. In the extra period, the River Hawks’ defense stood strong, with Brezynskie forcing a turnover and freshman Lauren Lorentzen (Carlsbad, Calif.) making a massive save, setting up redshirt freshman Chiara Pompei (Catonsville, Md.), who promptly scored the game-winner with 1:04 on the clock, earning the team its first conference victory of the year.

UML 15, UNH 12 – Recap

Heading to New Hampshire needing a crucial win, UMass Lowell fell behind, 7-5, after one quarter against the Wildcats. The River Hawks continued to fight, though, as sophomore Georgia Ruscitti (Toronto, Ontario), Brezynskie, and junior Marlee Green (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) each scored to take the lead. Fighting back, the Wildcats reclaimed the lead, 12-9, with 11:18 to play in the third, but Lydon took over, scoring four straight goals to put her team in front 13-12, before Brezynskie and Shultz each added a goal as well, sealing a 15-12 road conference win.

Brezynskie Named America East Rookie of the Week

After scoring five points in the win over New Hampshire, Brezynskie was named the America East Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. Against the Wildcats, the freshman totaled four goals and an assist, while also adding four draw controls. Although the freshman had a big first half, completing the hat trick early in the second quarter, her biggest moment came at the end of the game, scoring the second-to-last goal for her squad before assisting on the final goal to seal the victory.

All-Conference Honors

Following the conclusion of the season, five River Hawks earned all-conference honors. Lydon was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team, Pompei and Brezynskie were selected to the All-Rookie Team, while juniors Claire Fader (Downingtown, Pa.) and Bronwyn Hilbert (Lancaster, Pa.) were both named to the All-Academic Team.

In her final season, Lydon was dominant on both ends of the field, finishing the season with a team-leading 26 goals alongside 13 assists for 39 points, while adding 15 ground balls, eight caused turnovers, and 35 draw controls. Although she posted ten multi-point games, her best performance of the season came against New Hampshire when she scored four straight second-half goals, propelling the team to an important conference win.

In her first season on the field, Pompei proved to be a key piece of the UMass Lowell offense, scoring 19 goals, the fifth most on the team, including the overtime game-winner against UMBC.  Brezynskie, meanwhile, wasted no time making her name known, scoring a hat trick in the season opener to earn her America East Rookie of the Week honors. She didn't slow down there, though, finishing her freshman campaign with 14 goals, nine assists, 16 ground balls, nine caused turnovers, and 27 draw controls, including a career-best five points against New Hampshire to earn her second Rookie of the Week honor.

Fader, who was named to the All-Academic Team for the first time in her career, owns a 3.96 GPA as a mechanical engineering major. On the field, the junior helped anchor the River Hawks' defense this season, starting in 15 of the team's 16 games while adding 14 ground balls and ranking fourth on the team with 11 caused turnovers. Rounding out the honorees, Hilbert holds a 3.96 GPA as an electrical engineering major, earning her spot on the All-Academic Team. This season, the junior broke out on the field, ranking second on the team with 40 points and smashing her previous career high of 9 points during her freshman campaign. Not only an offensive threat, she also added 15 ground balls collected and eight caused turnovers.

Beyond the award winners, a plethora of other River Hawks stepped up during the 2026 season. The highest scoring output for the team, Shultz put together the best season of her career, finishing with 18 assists and 43 points, both ranking first on the squad, in only 14 games. The senior proved to be a top threat in conference play, ranking in the top six in the America East in goals, assists, and points per game.  Bowers, meanwhile, continued to be a dynamic goal scorer for UMass Lowell, ranking second on the team with 25 goals in only 11 games played. Also playing a key role on the offense, Anderson took on a much bigger role in 2026, scoring a career high 10 goals alongside four assists, highlighted by a personal best four goals against Binghamton.

On defense, Skinner once again proved to be a leader, ranking second on the team with 13 caused turnovers and fourth with 15 caused turnovers. Alongside her, sophomore Madison Carter (Baltimore, Md.) improved on her stellar freshman campaign, posting a career high 16 ground balls and 16 caused turnovers, ranking second and first on the team, respectively.
