LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's track and field team competed in two different meets on Friday, starting with two throwing events on day one of the George Davis Invitational at home, while a larger group took part in the Virginia Challenge at the University of Virginia.
At home at the George Davis Invitational, the hammer throw kicked it off, and freshman
Zoe Clarke (Dracut, Mass.) took part in her first career hammer throw, claiming 18th place for a 31.82m mark.
In the shot put, junior
Nhyira Nkansah (Chelmsford, Mass.) shined, earning a personal-best mark of 12.76m to finish in fourth place out of 20 throwers. Freshman
Nyrah Joseph (Billerica, Mass.) (9.82m) and senior
Paige Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) (8.99m) also competed, claiming 15
th and 18
th place, respectively.
Down at Virginia, the 100m prelims started it off, with junior
Jayani Santos (Tewksbury, Mass.) as the lone River Hawk. She sprinted to a tie for 19
th place out of 75 runners with a an impressive personal-best time of 11.98. Later on in the 5,000m, three River Hawks raced, and it was senior
Kylie Marion (Baldwinville, Mass.) that was the first to finish in 15th out of 23 with a time of 17:30.25, before freshman
Anna Fondakowski earned 19th place with a time of 17:46.90 and graduate student
Sarah Ross (Agawam, Mass.) finished in 17:56.03 for 22nd place.
