LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's outdoor track and field team split up on Friday, taking part in both the Friar Invitational at Providence and the Tufts Spring Invitational at Tufts.
Senior
Maggie McInerney (Acton, Mass.) kicked off the meet as the lone River Hawk in the 400m dash, finishing in 12
th out of 16 with a 59.65 mark. Next was the 800m open, and junior
Emily Burdick (Billerica, Mass.) led the way in fourth out of 29 runners with a 2:16.06 mark, before senior
Raihana Yameogo (Dillsburg, Pa.) claimed eighth with a 2:16.95 mark. Two more runners finished within the top 20, as sophomore
Brenna Corcoran (Haverhill, Mass.) finished in 16
th with a 2:19.14 mark and
junior Julie Condon claimed 20
th with a time of 2:21.72.
In the one mile open, sophomore
Salma Boukhtam (Quincy, Mass.) led the way for three River Hawks that finished top 20, claiming 12
th out of 41 with a time of 5:10.75. Junior
Emma Eagan (Danvers, Mass.) was next with a 5:14.90 mark for 18
th place, before senior
Miana Caraballo (Methuen, Mass.) finished in 20th with a time of 5:15.77.
Closing out the track events was sophomore
Lauren Long (Lunenburg, Mass.) in the 5,000m run, finishing in eighth place with a time of 17:54.52.
In the field events, graduate student
Fleur Balogh de Galantha (Grafton, Mass.) claimed first place in the high jump as the lone River Hawk, clearing 1.61m.
At day one of the Tufts Spring Invitational, the heptathlon athletes competed in the first four events, beginning with the 100m hurdles. Freshman
Nyrah Joseph (Billerica, Mass.) was the first to finish with a 14.82 mark, before senior
Paige Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) claimed sixth place with a 16.13 mark.
The two then finished back-to-back in the high jump, claiming eighth and ninth place. Joseph cleared 1.46m, while Murphy finished with a 1.43m mark.
Joseph then led the way in the shot put, reaching 10.61m for fourth place, before Murphy hit 9.53m for 10
th place. In the 200m, Joseph finished in fourth place with a time of 26.52, while Murphy was not far behind in sixth with a 27.49 mark.
"The group took advantage of the great weather today," said Associate Head Coach Ally Waruch. "I am happy with everyone's day one as a whole. They are all in a good position to score at the end of day two."
