UMass Lowell Heads South for Spring Break, Visits Wofford and Furman

LOWELL, Mass. –  Looking to get a pair of bounce-back victories, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (2-4) heads south for spring break to take on the Wofford Terriers (1-5) on Monday, March 9, before visiting the Furman Paladins (2-4) on Thursday, March 12.

LAST TIME OUT
Junior Bronwyn Hilbert (Lancaster, Pa.) tallied a team-high four points, as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (2-4) fell to the Siena Saints (5-0), 10-8, on Saturday afternoon. Hilbert, who scored twice and paced her team with two assists, was one of five River Hawks to record a goal in the game. Senior Macy Shultz (Adams, N.Y.) finished with a team-leading three goals, while sophomore Georgia Ruscitti (Toronto, Ontario) added a goal and an assist. Senior Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) and junior Chloe Bowers (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) each added a goal, while senior Kaitlynn Anderson (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and freshman Brienne Brezynskie (Elmira, Ontario) rounded out point scorers with an assist each. In net, junior Alexa Kuhn (Rocky Point, N.Y.) made 13 saves.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Through five games, Bowers paces the squad with 13 points and 12 goals. Right behind her, Lydon sits second with 11 points, while also tied with Brezynskie and Hilbert for the team lead with four assists. Leading the squad on the draw, Brezynskie and senior Rachel Stax (Milton, Ga.) each total nine draw controls, while sophomore Madison Carter (Baltimore, Md.) leads the defense with eight caused turnovers. In net, Kuhn not only posts 56 saves, but leads her team with 13 ground balls collected, so far.

WEEKLY WINNERS
After a pair of excellent performances in week one, Kuhn was named the America East Goalkeeper of the Week while Brezynskie was tabbed the conference's Rookie of the Week. Against the Jaspers, Kuhn started her season strong in net, allowing only six goals while making 11 saves on 28 shots faced, good for a .647 save percentage and her 17th career double-digit save performance. Meanwhile, Brezynskie left her mark in her first collegiate game, posting a hat trick, including the game-winner. Not only impressing on the offensive end, but she also filled up the box score all over the field, tallying two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls.

SCOUTING WOFFORD
The Terriers enter Monday's contest with a 1-5 record, dropping a pair of games last week to Kennesaw State and Campbell. Leading the way for the offense, McKenzie Moeller totals a squad-leading 21 points and 14 goals, while Kaitlyn Bellanca and Katie Brosseau both sit second with 14 points. A force on defense, Brooke Meltcher totals 11 caused turnovers and 32 ground balls, both leading her team. In net, Hannah Taylor has started all six games, making 57 saves and allowing 81 goals, good for a .413 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING THE PALADINS
Despite winning two of their first three games, the Paladins enter Thursday's game in the midst of a three-game losing streak to sit at a 2-4 record, most recently falling to Old Dominion 12-11 in overtime. Shae Insinga has been one of the top goal scorers in the country, posting 23 goals, including five the last time out, while Reynolds Hester leads Furman with 12 assists. In net, three different Paladins have made a start, with Sam Melville earning the most play time, allowing 24 goals while making 29 saves.

MATCHUP HISTORY
The River Hawks and Terriers have faced off once, with the River Hawks earning a 25-3 victory in 2022, the largest win in program history. Thursday's match will be the first between UMass Lowell and Furman.
