LOWELL, Mass – The UMass Lowell women's outdoor track and field team competed in both the Raleigh Relays and UMass Lowell D'Amour Invitational on Friday afternoon.
In Raleigh, junior
Jayani Santos (Tewksbury, Mass.) impressed with a 27
th-place finish out of 126 in the 400m, picking up a 55.75 mark. Next was sophomore
Avery Pitts (Willington, Conn.) and graduate student
Fleur Balogh de Galantha (Grafton, Mass.) in the high jump. Pitts claimed 49
th place with a 1.57m mark, while Balogh de Galantha finished 52
nd, clearing 1.57m. Later on, senior
Mary-Kate Finn (Nashua, N.H.) ran in the 1,500m and finished in 135
th place with a 4:33.24 mark.
"Mary-Kate made a great return in the 1,500m after some time off," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner. "That bodes well for the rest of the season. Jayani picked up right where she left off indoors with an excellent opening 400. It was another good day."
Back in Lowell, the 100m hurdles got the track events started, and freshman
Nyrah Joseph (Billerica, Mass.) led the way in fourth with a 15.50 mark. Junior
Shayla Quill (Andover, Mass.) picked up a top nine finish with her 17.69 mark. The squad had two top-10 finishers in the 1,500m run, as senior
Kylie Marion (Baldwinville, Mass.) led the way in sixth with a time of 4:53.96, before junior
Katharine Cottone (Little Falls, N.J.) claimed 10
th with a 4:58.98 mark.
Sophomore
Meredith Feener (Walpole, Mass.) was the lone River Hawk in the 100m dash, finishing in 14
th with a 13.29 mark. In the 400m, three UMass Lowell runners competed, and junior
Bridget Geary (Lowell, Mass.) finished seventh with a 1:02.34 mark, before juniors Julie Condon and
Soria Roberts (Warwick, R.I.) claimed ninth and 10th, respectively, with times of 1:03.75 and 1:04.70.
Senior
Raihana Yameogo (Dillsburg, Pa.) won the 800m run with a 2:21.31 mark, while sophomore
Alyssa Fiorino (Billerica, Mass.) claimed eighth with a 2:34.49 mark. Next was the 400m hurdles, where senior
Maggie McInerney (Acton, Mass.) zoomed to second place with a 1:08.79 mark, before freshman
Kathryn Perrone (Washington, Mass.) finished in fourth place with a time of 1:11.69. In the 200m dash, senior
Danielle Thompson (Groton, Mass.) led the way in eighth place with a time of 26.91, while Joseph was not too far behind in 13
th with a 27.71 mark.
The River Hawks took over the 3,000m run, and freshman
Anna Fondakowski was impressive, winning the race with a 10:15.37 mark, before graduate student
Sarah Ross (Agawam, Mass.) claimed second place with a 10:18.25 mark. Senior
Miana Caraballo (Methuen, Mass.) was next, finishing in fifth place with a time of 10:27.32, before junior
Emma Eagan (Danvers, Mass.) crossed the line in sixth with a 10:30.05 mark. Graduate student
Delaney Swanson (Swanzey, N.H.) and freshman
Krista Bettez (Gardner, Mass.) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, with times of 10:36.62 and 10:39.66.
In the field events, junior
Nhyira Nkansah (Chelmsford, Mass.) earned the victory with a 12.32m toss, before junior Una Brice (Cork, Ireland) won the pole vault, clearing 3.30m. In the high jump, Joseph led the way in eighth place with a 1.50m jump, while sophomore
Chloe Champagne (Brockton, Mass.) claimed 10
th with a 1.45m mark. Joseph also competed in the javelin, finishing fourth with a 29.06m toss, while senior
Paige Murphy (Billerica, Mass.). finished 10
th (22.81m). In the triple jump, junior
Nethica Auguste (Bridgewater, Mass.) finished second to lead the team with a 10.48m mark. Sophomore
Anya Neira (Methuen, Mass.) finished fifth with a 9.79m leap. Closing out the field events was the discus throw, where freshman
Zoe Clarke (Dracut, Mass.) competed well with a second-place performance and 39.10m mark.
