3/21/2026 4:23:00 PM

Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. -  Junior Emily Dodd (Calgary, Alberta) finished with a team-high four points, as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (4-6, 0-1 AE) fell to the UAlbany Great Danes (7-2, 2-0 AE), 19-10, in the team's first conference game of the season.

Dodd, who finished with three goals and an assist, was one of six River Hawks to record at least a point. Senior Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) finished with a hat trick as well, while senior Macy Shultz (Adams, N.Y.) tied her with three points off a goal and two assists. Freshman Brienne Brezynskie (Elmira, Ontario) added a goal and an assist, while junior Bronwyn Hilbert (Lancaster, Pa.) and redshirt freshman Chiara Pompei (Catonsville, Md.) each chipped in with a goal. In net, freshman Lauren Lorentzen (Carlsbad, Ca.) made six saves in her fourth career start.

Despite the Great Danes opening the contest with two goals in the opening minutes, the River Hawks locked in, not allowing another goal for over seven minutes of action. Meanwhile, the offense went to work, as Dodd found Hilbert open, setting up the junior for an easy score, before Shultz fired one past the opposing keeper, knotting the game up at 2-2 with 2:57 on the clock. UAlbany, however, responded with haste, scoring at the 1:05 mark before adding two more tallies in the final minute, taking a 5-2 lead after one.

UMass Lowell started the second quarter on fire, as Lydon struck less than a minute in to make it a two-goal deficit. At the same time, the defense was locked in, preventing the hosts from retaliating, setting up another scoring opportunity for the River Hawks, which Brezynskie capitalized on, rushing towards the net before unleashing her shot, pulling her squad back within one. The Great Danes fired back, scoring seven in a row to take a 12-4 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the break, the visitors went straight to work, as Dodd added her third goal of the season with 11:12 on the clock to cut into the lead. Only 30 seconds later, the junior captain struck again, this time racing past her defender before ripping a rocket past the keeper to make it a 12-6 game. UAlbany ended the quarter strong, though, adding four goals to take a 16-6 lead into the final period.

In the fourth, the River Hawks looked to pull off a comeback, as Lydon, Pompei, and Dodd all scored in the first nine minutes, and although Lydon added one more with 1:49 to go, the Great Danes countered with three goals in the final period, sealing the 19-10 outcome.

Next up, the River Hawks return home to host the Bryant Bulldogs on Saturday, March 28. Opening draw is scheduled for noon at Cushing Field.
