BOSTON, Mass. – UMass Lowell field hockey freshman back Frédèrique van den Dungen (Rosmalen, Netherlands) has earned an America East Defensive Player of the Week nod, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
Â
Van den Dungen anchored the River Hawk back line in a pair of strong performances last week. First, she helped UMass Lowell to a 1-0 shutout win in the conference opener against Bryant, logging the team's fourth shutout so far this year. She then helped force overtime on the road at Providence in a hard-fought, 1-0 decision. She was also part of the defensive corner unit that thwarted 12 corners across the two games.
Â
This markers van den Dungen's second consecutive weekly award after being named Rookie of the Week last week.
Â
The River Hawks are back in action at Vermont on Friday, October 9 at 3 p.m.
