LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell field hockey team celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special Alumni Day on Sunday, September 21.
Over 100 supporters attended the day's special events, including over 50 alums. Members of the program's inaugural 1975 team participated in a pre-game ceremony, including captain Elaine Burke Keegan. Head Coach
Shannon LeBlanc was also celebrated for reaching her 300
th career victory milestone before the River Hawks faced off against Kent State and won in a 3-2 overtime thriller.
"The 50
th anniversary celebration of Lowell field hockey was incredibly inspiring," said Head Coach
Shannon LeBlanc. "To have members of the 1975 team join the other decades of alums was nothing short of amazing to witness. Having our alums connect through their love of Lowell and field hockey is a testament to how special this university was to all that joined us.
Following the game, all attendees were welcome to attend a post-game reception inside the Kennedy Family Athletic Complex, formerly Costello Athletic Center. The speaking program included LeBlanc, Keegan, Director of Athletics
Lynn Coutts and Chancellor Julie Chen.
