No. 2 River Hawks Fall to No. 3 UAlbany, 18-10, in America East Semifinals

SMITHFIELD, R.I. –  Junior Audra Hansen (Stamford, Ct.) recorded a team-high four goals, as the #2 UMass Lowell River Hawks (11-6) fell to the #3 UAlbany Great Danes (8-9), 18-10, in the America East Semifinals on Friday night.
"A big thank you to the senior class for their hard work and commitment to the program and each other," said Head Coach Lisa Miller. "No one wants to lose their last game but this group gave everything they had on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. I know they will do well in life and be connected to Lowell forever. As for the game, congratulations to UAlbany for a well played and hard-fought game. It was a fun year with many firsts. The squad is young and we'll be back ready to go in 2026."
Hansen, one of six River Hawks to record a point, reached the 100-point career milestone with her first goal of the night. Right behind her in the points column, sophomore Marlee Green (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) added two points off two goals, while junior Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) and sophomore Chloe Bowers (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) each added a goal and an assist. Rounding things out, senior Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.) Â and sophomore Jillian Goldie (Owen Sound, Ontario) each chipped in a goal, while sophomore Alexa Kuhn (Rocky Point, N.Y.) made eight saves in net.
Although the Great Danes scored the first goal of the game less than a minute in, it didn't take long for the River Hawks to hit their stride, as both Hansen and Catlin struck to take a 2-1 lead with 8:18 on the clock. After UAlbany evened the score at 2-2, the River Hawks responded immediately, using a goal off the stick of Lydon only 50 seconds later to regain the one-goal margin. Continuing to fire away, UMass Lowell added one more, this time with Hansen's second tally, to own a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the opposition began to hit their stride, scoring three goals in two minutes to take a 5-4 lead with just over 10 minutes to go. Continuing to put the pressure on, the Great Danes added three more for an 8-4 lead late in the quarter. The River Hawks refused to back down though, using a free-position goal in the final minutes by Goldie to cut the deficit to 8-5 heading into the break.
Coming out of the half, UAlbany struck early, scoring twice to make it a five-goal difference with just 13 minutes on the clock. UMass Lowell continued to battle, as Green found the back of the net on a free-position shot only 33 seconds later, pulling her squad back within four. Although the Great Danes added one more, the River Hawks' defense locked in, not allowing another goal for the final ten minutes of the third. Meanwhile, the offense began to heat up with goals by Hansen and Green to make it a three-goal game, 11-8, heading into the final quarter.
Despite UMass Lowell's defense continuing to hold strong early in the fourth, the Great Danes finally broke through, scoring seven straight to own a 16-8 lead with just under six minutes to play. The River Hawks responded with goals from Hansen and Bowers, but two goals by the opposition in the final three minutes sealed the 18-10 decision.
