AMHERST, Mass. – The UMass Lowell men's and women's track and field team hit the road to Amherst on Saturday. to compete in the NEICAAA Championships at the UMass Track and Field Complex.
"We had some really good performances coming off a tough conference meet," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner.
The women's 5,000m run kicked it off for the River Hawks, as senior
Delaney Swanson (Swanzey, N.H.) led with a time of 18:46.09 for 23
rd place. Junior
Mia Jones (Blacksburg, Va.) was just behind her in 27
th place with an 18:54.55 mark.
Next was the men's 5,000m run, where freshman
Jack Courtney finished 10
th with a 15:02.16 mark, with fellow freshman
Dante Castellano (Nashua, N.H) finishing in 11
th with a time of 15:02.56.
The men's 4x100m relay followed, with the team of freshman
Iyanuoluwapo Omisore (Lagos, Nigeria), sophomore Evan Imaosgie (Lowell, Mass.), graduate student
Aras Kaya (Winchester, Mass.) and sophomore
Daniel Kennedy (Tolland, Conn.) finishing in second with a 41.21 mark.
In the women's 1,500m run, junior
Miana Caraballo (Methuen, Mass.) led the way in 27
th place, earning a time of 4:55.10, while junior
Kylie Marion (Baldwinville, Mass.) claimed 30
th with a 4:59.36 mark.
In the men's 1,500m race, freshman
Isaac Henderson finished in fifth place, picking up a time of 3:54.18 to lead the way for the River Hawks. Freshman
Devin Moreau (Tyngsboro, Mass.) was next in 13
th place, finishing in 4:00.79, just before freshman
Jamie Lano (Strafford, N.H.) claimed 19
th place with a time of 4:05.54.
Graduate student
Alexandria Grasso (North Reading, Mass.) was the lone River Hawk in the 100m hurdles, finishing in 21
st place with a time of 15.05.
Three River Hawks participated in the men's 400m dash, with junior
Derek Munroe (Tewksbury, Mass.) leading in 24
th with a 50.60 mark, and sophomore
Brandon Riley (Weymouth, Mass.) just behind him in 25
th with a 50.64 mark. Junior
Brett Earle (Baldwinville, Mass.) was not far behind in 26
th, earning a time of 50.72.
Kennedy led in the 100m dash, earning himself a third-place finish with a school-record time of 10.45. Imasogie followed in 18
th with a 10.77 mark. Kaya was not far behind, claiming 22
nd with a 10.82 mark.
The first winner of the day came in the 800m run, when senior
Andrew Benassi (Reading, Mass.) claimed first with a time of 1:52.03 as the lone River Hawk in the event.
"Andrew defending his 800m championship was great to watch," said Gardner.
The men's 400m hurdles was next, as juniors
Tristan O'Riorden and
Alejandro Lynch (Somerville, Mass.) finished back-to-back in eighth and ninth place, respectively. O'Riorden finished with a time of 54.45, while Lynch crossed in 54.67.
Next was the men's 200m dash, where the lone River Hawk was freshman
Michael Gyimah (Kumasi, Ghana). He finished in seventh place with a 21.65 mark.
"Our sprinters had a great day," said Gardner. "Dan setting the school record was an unexpected surprise. Then really good runs by Gyimah and the 4x100m."
Next was the women's steeplechase, where freshman
Lauren Long (Lunenburg, Mass.) finished in 13
th place, earning a time of 11:52.21. In the men's steeplechase, graduate student Joseph Young (Dorchester, Mass.) led in sixth place, earning a 9:19.99 mark, before freshman
Patrick Hall (Billerica, Mass.) finished in eighth with a time of 9:25.75. Junior
Joshua Rivers (Manchester, N.H.) was next, finishing in 21
st place with a 10:01.52 mark, as sophomore
Timothy Walsh (Auburn, Mass.) crossed in 23
rd place with a time of 10:03.81. Sophomore
Nicolas Uzzo (East Bridgewater, Mass.) rounded out the River Hawks in 27
th place with a time of 10:07.17.
In the field events, graduate student Fleur Balogh De Galantha (Groton, Mass.) finished seventh in the women's high jump, clearing 1.62m. Freshman
Avery Pitts (Willington, Conn.) finished tied for ninth with a 1.57m mark.
Next was the men's long jump, where Riley finished in seventh with a 6.94m mark. Graduate student
Brandon Williams was the lone River Hawk in the men's triple jump, finishing in eighth with a 13.50m mark.
In the men's high jump, senior
Luke Stelmach (Sterling, Mass.) and freshman
Camren Allain (Carver, Mass.) each cleared 1.91m for 11
th place, while sophomore
Shane Exilhomme (Orlando, Fla.) finished in 24
th place with a 1.86m mark.
Munroe competed in the pole vault for the River Hawks, clearning 4.49m for seventh place overall. In the women's pole vault, sophomore
Úna Brice (Cork, Ireland) finished 18
th with a 3.37m mark.
Senior
Ian Camerato (Mount Laurel, N.J.) finished 12
th to lead the team in the men's shot put, reaching 14.93m. Junior
Mukanya Kazadi (Woburn, Mass.) was just behind in 16
th place, earning a 14.38m mark. Camerato also competed in the discus throw, earning eighth place with a 48.12m mark.
