FAIRFAX, Va. – The UMass Lowell women's track and field team rounded out the weekend with day two of the Dalton Ebanks Invitational at Geroge Mason University in Fairfax, Va. On Saturday.
"We competed well all weekend," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner. "Great to see many of our young athletes compete away from New England and do well."
Graduate student
Alexandria Grasso (North Reading, Mass.) got it started in the javelin, tossing 23.98m for 12
th place, before freshman
Anya Neira (Methuen, Mass.) finished 18
th in the triple jump with a 10.39m leap.
The shotput was next, and it was sophomore
Nhyira Nkansah (Chelmsford, Mass.) that led the way with an 11.75m toss for 11
th place. Joyce Nabagereka finished in 14
th place with an 11.30m mark. Also, Sophomore
Úna Brice (Cork, Ireland) finished in eighth place as the lone River Hawk in the pole vault with a 3.22m mark.
In the discus, Nabagereka finished ninth on a tiebreaker with a 35.89m toss, before Nkansah set a personal record at 32.17m for 16
th place.
"The throwers had a good weekend," said Gardner. "Joyce making finals was excellent."
The 400m opened up the running events, as freshman
Amelia Stebe (Honolulu, Hawaii) led the way in 15
th with a time of 59.06, before junior
Danielle Thompson (Groton, Mass.) claimed 18
th place with a 59.16 mark.
Grasso shined in the 100m hurdles, claiming third place overall with a time of 14.19, before junior
Paige Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) finished in 32
nd with a time of 17.24. The 1,500m run concluded the day for the squad, and it was junior
Raihana Yameogo (Dillsburg, Pa.) that led with a 38
th-place performance and time of 4:53.55.
