FAIRFAX, Va. – The UMass Lowell women's track and field team competed in the Dalton Ebanks Invitational at George Mason University Friday at the George Mason Stadium in Fairfax, Va.
The women's hammer throw kicked off the day, with Joyce Nabagereka representing the River Hawks and finishing 12
th with a personal-best mark of 39.26m.
Next was the long jump, where junior
Paige Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) led the way with a 14
th-place performance and 5.10m mark, while graduate student Ali Grasso (North Reading, Mass.) claimed 16
th place with a 5.04m mark. Freshman
Anya Neira (Methuen, Mass.) was behind her in 21
st place with a 4.85m mark to close out the competitors. Freshman
Avery Pitts (Willington, Conn.) was the lone competitor in the high jump, clearing 1.58m for seventh place.
In the 400m hurdles, sophomore
Bridget Geary (Lowell, Mass.) led the way with a time of 1:08.85 for 24
th place, while sophomore
Katharine Cottone (Little Falls , N.J.) claimed 26
th place with a time of 1:09.95. In the 200m, freshman
Amelia Stebe (Honolulu, Hawaii) led with a 25.69 mark for 24
th place, while junior
Danielle Thompson (Groton, Mass.) finished in 34
th with a time of 26.23.
In the 800m, sophomore
Emily Burdick (Billerica, Mass.) led the way in 33
rd place with a time of 2:17.42, while freshman
Brenna Corcoran (Haverhill, Mass.) claimed 49
th with a 2:19.55 mark. Junior
Raihana Yameogo (Dillsburg, Pa.) was next, finishing 51
st with a 2:19.76 mark, followed by freshman
Isabel McIntyre (Dover, N.H.) in 75
th place with a time of 2:27.93. Cottone also competed, finishing in 79
th with a time of 2:29.51.
Freshman
Lauren Long (Lunenburg, Mass.) was the lone River Hawk in the 3,000m steeplchase, finishing 11th with a time of 11:58.99.
In the 5,000m, graduate student
Mary Yount (Northampton, Mass.) led the way with an eighth-place finish and time of 17:32.89, while junior
Miana Caraballo (Methuen, Mass.) was next in 19
th place with a time of 18:19.25. Senior
Delaney Swanson (Swanzey, N.H.) claimed 26
th with a 18:30.08 mark, just before junior
Mia Jones (Blacksburg, Va.) finished in 28
th place with a time of 18:34.21. Three more River Hawks competed in sophomore
Emma Eagan (Danvers, Mass.) ( 32
nd, 18:44.19), freshman
Georgia Brooks (Groton, Mass.) (35
th, 18:49.45) and senior
Vivian Mac (Randolph, Mass.) (44
th, 19:47.74).
"Day one was pretty solid," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner. "Joyce had a nice personal best in the hammer and there were some great performances in the 800m on both sides."
The River Hawks will return on Saturday to take on day two of the event.
