River Hawks Introduce 2025 Captains

4/2/2025 5:32:00 PM

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Field Hockey Head Coach Shannon LeBlanc announced her team's captains for the 2025 season on Wednesday.

Graduate student Aurise Tattrie (Watertown, Mass.) will return to the leadership position for the third consecutive year. She will be joined by senior Cate Kleeman (Gibbsboro, N.J.) and junior Madison Leeper (East Amherst, N.Y.) for the first time.

"Madison, Cate and Aurise are shining examples of what we look for in leaders," said LeBlanc. "Individually, they will each bring a unique set of strong leadership qualities, and collectively with their experiences, they set a high standard for our team to emulate. We are excited for the 2025 season and with 10 newcomers we will lean on these three to provide the foundation that will be necessary for our successes both on and off the field."

Tattrie has not only been an anchor for the River Hawks' leadership group for three seasons, but also in the team's backfield. She started in all 18 games in 2024, while notching her first career goal in a home victory against Maine. The back, who is pursuing a master's in public administration, totaled a personal-best three points last season and finished with 1,063 minutes played, good for second on the team.

Kleeman, an environmental sciences major in the Kennedy College of Sciences, is a two-time member of the America East All-Academic Team and a four-time NFHCA Scholar of Distinction. On the turf, the back started 15 of the 17 games she played in 2024, helping to limit the opposition to just 1.83 goals per game.

Leeper, a nursing major, posted a dominant 2024 season and was yet again at the nucleus of the River Hawks' offense. For the second season in a row, Leeper started in all 18 games, while posting team bests with 13 goals and 26 points. The forward tallied five, game-winning goals, garnering spots on the America East All-Conference First Team, All-Championship Team and the NFHCA All-Northeast Region Second Team.
