River Hawks Cruise to 16-6 Win Against Le Moyne

LOWELL, Mass. – Senior Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.) tallied three goals and an assist, as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (6-2) cruised to a 16-5 victory over the Le Moyne Dolphins (1-5) on Saturday afternoon.

"I thought we started off well," said Head Coach Lisa Miller. "It was a good game in that some kids that don't have the reward of playing time, I thought we got some of our younger kids into the competition early and let them play through some stuff. I'm happy we were able to use our bench quite a bit today because down the stretch we will need them to give us some depth."

Catlin, who also led the squad with four draw controls, was one of 11 River Hawks to record a point and one of five to score at least two goals. Tying Catlin with four points was junior Macy Shultz (Adams, N.Y.), who finished with two goals and two assists, while sophomore Chloe Bowers (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) added three goals. Sophomore Kaitlyn McKinnon (Concord, N.H.) and junior Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) each chipped in two goals. At the same time, sophomores Bronwyn Hilbert (Lancaster, Pa.) and Marlee Green (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) finished with a goal and an assist each. In net, sophomore Alexa Kuhn (Rocky Point, N.Y.) and freshman Erin-Kate Roeder (Fallston, Md.) split time, with each goalkeeper making three saves.

The River Hawks came out of the gates firing, striking only 49 seconds in thanks to a free-position goal off the stick of Hilbert. They didn't stop there though, as Lydon struck with 11:36 on the clock, Catlin added three more in just over a minute, and Bowers added her first to give the hosts a 6-0 lead just over five minutes in. Although the Dolphins struck for the first time with 5:47 remaining in the first, UMass Lowell countered instantly, scoring on each of its next two possessions to take an 8-1 lead into the second quarter.

In the second, the River Hawks executed the game plan to near perfection, allowing only three shots in the entire period while not allowing a goal. Meanwhile, on the offensive end, the squad continued to find the back of the net, as Shultz tallied a woman-up goal one minute in, and Green added her first of the season on a free-position shot. Adding to their lead, Bowers struck for the second time with 10 minutes to play, before completing the hat trick with 5:56 on the clock, sending UMass Lowell into the half up 12-1.

Coming out of the break, the hosts continued to dominate in every aspect, once again scoring first, this time just over two minutes into the period. Although the Dolphins added their second goal of the day moments later, the River Hawks locked down on the defensive end, not allowing a goal for the remainder of the third while adding goals from sophomore Ellie Chung (Villanova, Pa.) and two from McKinnon to take the largest lead of the day, 16-2, into the fourth.

In the final 15 minutes, the visitors attempted to make a comeback, scoring the final four goals of the game, but UMass Lowell refused to let them get any closer, sealing the 16-6 decision.

Next up, the River Hawks will kick off America East play on Sunday, March 16, when they host the New Hampshire Wildcats. Opening draw is set for noon at Cushing Field.
