The Bruce Lehane Scarlett and White Invitational, hosted by BU, Closed the Weekend for the River Hawks

BOSTON, Mass. – The men's indoor track and field team brought a large group to the 2025 Bruce Lehane Scarlett and White Invitational in Boston, Mass. at the Tennis and Track center, hosted by BU.

"Overall it was a great tune up leading into conference action, with quality performances from all the event groups today," said Head Coach Gary Gardner. "It's really exciting to see the younger team members come along as the season has been progressing."

The 5,000m event began the Bruce Lehane Invitational, as graduate student Henry Farrington (Essex Junction, Vt.) expressed his endurance big time when he finished in ninth place, for a new personal-best time of 14:38.33. Behind, more personal-bests were posted by junior Nathanael Fondakowski (Pelham, N.H.) when he crossed at 14:44.90 for 12th place, sophomore Timothy Walsh (Auburn, Mass.) finishing in 15th with a time of 15:05.31, and sophomore Keegan Tierney (East Greenwich, R.I.) claiming 18th at 15:11.49.

"On the distance side, it seems like they are starting to hit their stride right on pace for where they should be this time of the year," voiced Associate Head Coach Allyson Waruch. "Their races are looking much stronger and I am always excited to see them get fast as a group." 

A few River Hawks were able to compete in the 60m hurdles preliminary, with sophomore Brandon Riley (Weymouth, Mass.) crossing the line at 8.62 for sixth place and sophomore Nidlaire Olivier (Lowell, Mass.) neck and neck, claiming seventh place at 8.71. Junior Derek Munroe (Tewksbury, Mass.) ran for a 10th place finish at a time of 9.04. Olivier went on to hurdle in the final heat, where he'd eventually cruise to a fourth-place finish, clocking in at a time of 8.74. 

The 60m dash preliminary followed, as sophomore Evan Imasogie (Lowell, Mass.) sprinted for a 6.97 time, finishing in ninth place overall, with freshman Iyanuoluwapo Omisore (Lagos, Nigeria) dashing in the near, clocking in a new personal-best, at 6.98 for 10th place. Graduate student Aras Kaya (Winchester, Mass.) and freshman Michael Gyimah (Kumasi, Ghana) both clocked in at 7.04 in the dash, with Kaya finishing in 12th and Gyimah taking 13th, with a new personal-best. Freshman Dmitrius Shearrion (Taunton, Mass.) also ran in the event. Ultimately, Imasogie ran in the final heat, dashing for a time of 7.00, earning fifth place. 

Junior Pedro Mayol (Lincoln, R.I.) (59th, 1:56.46), freshman Tyler Rothrock (Allentown, Pa.) (64th, 1:57.63), and senior Sean Riley (Wilmington, Mass.) (67th, 1:58.25) all competed in the 800m run event.  

A small group took on the 500m run, with freshman Gabriel Sisk (West Hartford, Conn.) earning seventh place after going beyond his ceiling, crossing the line at a new personal-best of 1:04.60. In a bunch where, junior Basit Iddriss (Milford, Mass.) (14th, 1:05.49), junior Alejandro Lynch (Somerville, Mass.) (15th, 1:05.65), and graduate student Tanner Jellison (Wakefield, Mass.) (18th, 1:06.17).

Junior Tristan O'Riorden was alone for UMass Lowell in the 400m dash invite, as he was able to claim 18th place for a time of 49.09.

The one-mile run came next, with senior Joseph Curran (Nashua, N.H.) in front for UMass Lowell, posting a 4:14.08 time while finishing in 58th place. Flowing behind, senior Landen Vaillancourt (New Ipswich, N.H.) took 71st place after clocking in at 4:20.43 and junior Hale Boyden (Barnet, Vt.) finished at 4:23.24 for 74th. Also running in the one-mile run were senior Timothy Brigham (Holden, Mass.) and junior Daniel Burns (Billerica, Mass.).

Omisore took on the 200m dash invite as well, making his name known on the leader board, after recording a personal-best time of 21.65 for ninth place. Gyimah followed claiming 23rd place at a new personal-best time of 22.02, as sophomore Anthony Massari (Dumont, N.J.) (31st, 22.30) and junior Brett Earle (Baldwinville, Mass.) (41st, 22.57) rounded out the River Hawks.

The 200m dash open was filled with a number of River Hawk runners in the top 10, as freshman Michael Fisher (Wallingford, Conn.) would earn a placement of fifth overall, after crossing the line at 22.35 for a new personal-best. Shearrion proceeded claiming sixth place with a time of 22.42, Aras Kaya earned eighth place at 22.49, and Ojatabu closed the top 10, once he obtained 10th place for a new personal-best time of 22.53. Freshman Liam O'Keefe (Trumbull, Conn.) was the last of the UMass Lowell competitors, as he claimed 21st at a time of 23.09. 

"The sprinters had a solid day two, as most of them competed in at least one event yesterday at Harvard," mentioned Waruch. "It was a great dress rehearsal to get ready for trials and finals coming up at conference championships. It has been exciting seeing young sprinters like Fisher, Iyanu, Jayani and Amelia start to get stronger as we head into championships." 

Senior Graham Stedfast (Rowley, Mass.) posted a new personal-best in the 1,000m run, as he claimed ninth place for a time of 2:26.44. New personal bests were posted by sophomore Andrew Benassi (Reading, Mass.), when he crossed the line at 2:27.20 for 12th place, freshman Tyler Young (Marion, Mass.) in 16th when he posted a time of 2:29.11 and graduate student Jake Connolly (Weymouth, Mass.) running past the line for a time of 2:30.95 in 20th place. Also competing in the 1,000m event were sophomore Frederick Coleman (Methuen, Mass.), freshman Sean Kerin (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman Dylan Brenn

In the 3,000m run, junior Sean Kennedy-Wonneberger (East Haddam, Conn.) ran his way to a new personal-best time of 8:05.01 for 22nd place, as freshman Devin Moreau (Tyngsboro, Mass.) came next, finishing in 52nd also posting a new personal-best time of 8:22.40. Next in line for UMass Lowell, freshman Jack Courtney would cross at 8:27.53, a new personal-best, recording a 64th place finish, with freshman Anthony Verdi (Frederick, Md.) finishing in 81st place at a new personal-best time of 8:37.21 and freshman Patrick Hall (Billerica, Mass.) clocking in at 8:40.73 for 86th. 

UMass Lowell had a team compete in the 4x400m relay, with Ojatabu, Earle, Massari and O'Keefe a part of the event, claiming a 12th place finish overall at a time of 3:20.10. 

Starting the fielding events, Munroe got things unfolded when he elevated in the pole vault event for a 4.40m mark, earning third place. Graduate student Daniel Cuddy (Hudson, Mass.) claimed seventh place after rising for a 4.25m mark, and freshman Sawyer O'Riorden (Stow, Mass.) took 11th, posting a 3.80m mark.  

A new personal-best was posted at the high jump event, when sophomore Shane Exilhomme (Orlando, Fla.) was able to launch for a 2.00m mark, earning third place. Freshman Camren Allain (Carver, Mass.) followed, obtaining a fifth-place finish for a 1.90m mark, with senior Luke Stelmach (Sterling, Mass.) jumping for a 1.85m mark, finishing in eighth place and freshman Jack Shepherd arching for a 1.75m mark for 11th place. 

"I'm so pleased with how Shane has progressed," expressed Waruch. "He's been diligent and keeps raising the bar for his expectations." 

Senior Ian Camerato (Mount Laurel, N.J.) and junior Mukanya Kazadi (Woburn, Mass.) were the two River Hawk throwers in the shot put event. Camerato had thrown for a 13.58m mark, finishing in eighth place, and Kazadi earned ninth place after tossing the shot for a 13.43m mark. Stelmach also competed tossing for a new personal-best with a 12.88m mark for 12th place. 

Brandon Riley participated in the long jump event as well, where he sprung to a 6.80m mark for seventh place. Graduate student Brandon Wiliams (Severn, Md.) claimed 11th after jumping for a 6.41m mark. Shepherd (18th, 5.78m), senior Ben Ayotte (Salisbury, Mass.) (19th, 5.75m), and sophomore Kuzey Kaya (Winchester, Mass.) (20th, 5.48m) also competed in the long jump event. 

"The jumpers are getting consistent at a higher level, so I'm excited to see them carry some extra confidence towards the end of this season," commented Waruch.

The River Hawks will have a different look in its next competition, when they travel for a weekday meet in Durham, N.H. on Wednesday, February 12 at the Paul Sweet Oval.
