RESULTS
BOSTON, Mass. – The UMass Lowell women's indoor track and field team traveled to the Track and Tennis Center at Boston University on Saturday for the first day of the 2025 America East Indoor Championship. The team finished the day in sixth place with 12 points.

The 60m hurdles preliminaries kicked off the track events, as graduate student
Alexandria Grasso (North Reading, Mass.) qualified for the finals with a sixth-place finish and time of 8.84. In the 400m dash, freshman
Amelia Stebe (Honolulu, Hawaii) was the lone River Hawks qualifier with an eighth-place performance and personal-best 56.73 mark.
Junior
Nia Mainer-Smith (Taunton, Mass.) shined in the 500m dash preliminaries, finishing atop the leaderboard with a personal-best time of 1:14.93 to qualify for tomorrow's finals.
Three River Hawks competed in the 5,000m run, as junior
Miana Caraballo (Methuen, Mass.) led the way in 11
th place with a time of 17:45.20. Junior
Mia Jones (Blacksburg, Va.) claimed 17
th with an 18:19.92 mark, before sophomore
Emma Eagan (Danvers, Mass.) finished in 21
st with a time of 18:33.99.
Sophomore
Jayani Santos (Tewksbury, Mass.) shined in the 200m dash preliminary, finishing first with a personal-best 24.19 mark as the only River Hawk competitor.
The 4,000m distance medley relay closed out the track events, and the team of graduate student
Rachel Thomas (Perry Hall, Md.), sophomore
Emily Burdick (Billerica, Mass.), junior
Raihana Yameogo (Dillsburg, Pa.) and senior
Sarah Ross (Agawam, Mass.) finished in third place with a time of 11:48.66 to earn six points for the team.
"The DMR team overachieved, which was fantastic," said Gardner.
In the field events, the pole vault kicked it off, with sophomore
Úna Brice (Cork, Ireland) leading the squad with a ninth-place finish and mark of 3.40m. Senior
Jules Gravier (Bronxville, N.Y.) claimed 11
th with a 3.25m mark, while senior
Madison Sanchez (Amesbury, Mass.) and freshman
Jaden Kasule (Tewksbury, Mass.) each cleared 2.95m for 15
th and 16
th place, respectively. The weight throw was next, with senior
Arlene Davila (Peabody, Mass.) finishing 14
th with a 14.61m mark. Joyce Nabagereka finished in 23
rd with a toss of 12.80m.
The long jump closed out the field events and it was Grasso that led the way with a 10
th-place performance and 5.37m jump. Senior
Olamide Bamgbose (Fitchburg, Mass.) finished in 28
th with a 4.37m mark.
In the pentathlon, senior Fleur Balogh De Galantha (Grafton, Mass.) finished fourth overall, scoring 3213 points to snag five points for the team. Junior
Paige Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) claimed eighth place with 3008 points for one team point and freshman
Chloe Champagne (Brockton, Mass.) finished 15
th with 2217 points. Â
In the pentathlon 60m hurdles, Balogh De Galantha finished fourth with a 9.17 mark, while Murphy finished in ninth place with a time of 9.73 and Champagne took 16
th with an 11.15 mark. Balogh De Galantha led the way in the high jump as well, tying for second place with a 1.57m mark, while Champagne finished tied for seventh with a personal-best 1.45m mark and Murphy claimed a tie for 11
th with a jump of 1.42m. Â
The shot put was next, with Balogh De Galantha putting a great performance and claiming second place with a personal-best toss of 10.39m. Murphy was not far behind, finishing fifth with a personal-best 9.72m mark, while Champagne finished 16
th with a 6.09m mark. Balogh De Galantha leaped to a 5.09m mark in the long jump to claim fifth, as Murphy finished in ninth with a personal-best jump of 4.91m and Champagne finished in 16
th with a personal-best 4.52m. The final event of the pentathlon was the 800m run, where Murphy led the way with a fourth-place finish and personal-best time of 2:32.24. Balogh De Galantha (2:46.78) and Champagne (2:53.35) crossed the finish line in 14
th and 15
th place, respectively.
The River Hawks will now return to the Track and Tennis Center tomorrow, Sunday, February 23 for day two of the 2025 America East Indoor Championship. Â
