River Hawks Head To Stonehill, Host No. 5/6 Yale

LOWELL, Mass. – After two strong performances last week to stay undefeated, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (3-0) hits the road to take on the Stonehill Skyhawks (0-1) on Wednesday, February 19, before playing host to the #5/#6 Yale Bulldogs (1-0) on Saturday, February 22.

LAST TIME OUT

Senior Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.) broke the program's all-time points record with a five-point day, as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (3-0) took down the defending NEC Champions LIU (0-2) at the Maples Center on Saturday afternoon. Catlin, who was all over the box score with four goals, one assist, three ground balls, and a career-high five caused turnovers, was one of eight River Hawks to tally a point on the day. Right behind her, sophomore Chloe Bowers (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) recorded a hat trick, sophomore Jillian Goldie (Owen Sound, Ontario) added two goals and an assist, and junior Macy Shultz (Adams, N.Y.) chipped in a goal and two assists. Juniors Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) and Audra Hansen (Stamford, Ct.) each found the back of the net twice, while freshman Georgia Ruscitti (Toronto, Ontario) tallied two assists. Rounding out the scoring, sophomore Bronwyn Hilbert (Lancaster, Pa.) contributed with her first goal of the young season.

LEADING THE FLOCK

Catlin leads the offense, totaling ten goals and two assists through the first three games. Right behind her, Bowers, Shultz, and Goldie all total ten points, scoring eight, seven, and five goals respectively. While Catlin also paces the squad with six caused turnovers, freshman Madison Carter (Baltimore, Md.) and sophomore Allie Reading (Draper, Utah) each sit second with five apiece. Junior Rachel Stax (Milton, Ga.) totals 13 draw controls so far this season, and in net, Kuhn has made 27 saves, good for a .643 save percentage, in three games.

AMERICA EAST HONORS

Following impressive defensive performances in Week Two, Kuhn was named the America East Goaltender of the Week, and Carter was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week. After setting the program's career goals record with an impressive four-goal performance in the season opener win, Catlin was named the America East Offensive Player of the Week in Week One.

SCOUTING STONEHILL

Stonehill enters Wednesday's coming off a 14-6 loss at Boston University in their season opener. Junior Grace Murphy led the Skyhawk's offense in the opener, scoring three goals while adding two ground balls. Midfielder Julia Kogan played a big role on the defensive end, collecting three ground balls, and causing two turnovers while adding two draw controls. In net, sophomore Nina Tremonte made 12 saves while allowing 14 goals, good for a .462 save percentage in the loss.

SCOUTING YALE

Before coming to Lowell on Saturday, the #5/#6 Bulldogs will make a quick instate trip to Quinnipiac to battle the Bobcats. In their season opener, Yale earned a 12-6 victory in a top-10 matchup against then-ranked #4 Michigan. In that game, the Bulldogs were led by Fallon Vaughn and Taylor Lane, who each tallied two goals and two assists on the afternoon. Behind them, three players recorded a three-point day, while Ashley Kiernan rounded things out with a goal and an assist. In net, senior Cami Donadio made six saves while allowing only six goals in the win.  

MATCHUP HISTORY

Wednesday marks the third time the River Hawks and Skyhawks have battled, with UMass Lowell owning a 2-0 record in the all-time series. When the teams faced last year at Cushing Field, the River Hawks earned a 13-9 victory. Meanwhile, Saturday will mark the first that UMass Lowell and Yale have faced off.
