BOSTON, Mass. – A group of runners from the UMass Lowell women's track and field team traveled to Boston University on Saturday to compete in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the Track and Tennis Center.

"The women had a nice day," said Head Coach Gary Gardner. "It was a good group of personal bests. When half the people competing run personal bests that is as good as it gets."

The 400m dash kicked it off, with junior Nia Mainer Smith (Taunton, Mass.) leading the River Hawks with a 10th-place finish out of 109 runners and a personal-best time of 57.23. Sophomore Emily Burdick (Billerica, Mass.) claimed 57th place with a personal-best 59.84 mark, while sophomore Katharine Cottone (Little Falls, N.J.) rounded out the UMass Lowell runners with a 77th-place performance and a time of 1:01.82.

"Nia continues an exceptional season with another personal best in the 400m," said Gardner. "Her work ethic is second to none."

Graduate student Rachel Thomas (Perry Hall, Md.) was the lone River Hawk in the 800m run, finishing in 137th place out of 211 runners with a time of 2:18.85. Later on, in the 1,000m run, junior Raihana Yameogo (Dillsburg, Pa.) was also the lone River Hawk of the race, earning a 33rd-place performance out of 48 finishers, picking up a time of 2:58.96.

In the mile run, senior Sarah Ross (Agawam, Mass.) got it going, finishing 176th out of 276 runners with a time of 5:04.57, before junior Kylie Marion (Baldwinville, Mass.) took 226th with a personal-best 5:13.02 mark. Freshman Georgia Brooks (Groton, Mass.) was right behind her in 231st place, crossing in 5:14.23. Sophomore Emma Eagan (Danvers, Mass.) also competed, claiming 254th with a personal-best time of 5:17.79, while junior Mia Jones (Blacksburg, Va.) rounded out the River Hawks runners in 274th with a time of 5:30.98.
The 3,000m was the final race of the day for UMass Lowell, as junior Miana Caraballo (Methuen, Mass.) closed it out with a time of 10:08.20 for 220th place.

The River Hawks will now move on to compete at the 2025 America East Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday and Sunday, February 22 and 23.
