DURHAM, N.H. – The UMass Lowell women's track and field team traveled to Durham Wednesday afternoon to compete against the University of New Hampshire in a head-to-head battle.
"It's always a fun meet here at New Hampshire," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner. "It's great to give everyone another chance to get ready for conference or finish out the season. New Hampshire is always a great host."
The mile run kicked off the track events, with senior
Delaney Swanson (Swanzey, N.H.) as the lone River Hawk, finishing in third with a time of 5:29.29 to earn two points for the team. The 400m run also saw just one River Hawk in sophomore
Soria Roberts (Warwick, R.I.), who finished in third with a time of 1:04.21 to pick up two points.
In the 55m dash, freshman
Meredith Feener (Walpole, Mass.) (7.76) and sophomore
Bridget Geary (Lowell, Mass.) (7.91) finished back-to-back in second and third place, earning a combined five points for the team. Fellow freshman
Isabel McIntyre (Dover, N.H) was the lone River Hawk in the 800m run, finishing in fourth and earning two points with a time of 2:31.45.
Four of the five total runners in the 1,000m run were from UMass Lowell, as they finished from second place to fifth. Senior
Vivian Mac (Randolph, Mass.) led the way in second with a time of 3:16.41 for three points, before freshman
Selena Wood (Abington, Mass.) took third for two points with a 3:17.70 mark and classmate
Haley Evans claimed fourth with a time of 3:17.97. Freshman
Alyssa Fiorino finished in fifth with a 3:24.57 mark.
Three total women competed in the 3,000m run, and it was senior
Kaitlyn Stevens (Oxford, Mass.) and sophomore
Lena Takahashi (Holden, Mass.) that finished in second and third, respectively with times of 11:18.17 and 11:53.59. Stevens' time was a personal best.
In the field events, sophomore
Úna Brice (Cork, Ireland) claimed second place in the pole vault for three points, clearing 3.46m for a personal best, while senior
Jules Gravier (Bronxville, N.Y.) claimed third with a mark of 3.16m for two points. Freshman
Jaden Kasule (Tewksbury, Mass.) finished in fourth with a 3.01m mark, while senior
Madison Sanchez (Amesbury, Mass.) took sixth with a 2.86m mark.
Freshman
Avery Pitts (Willington, Conn.) won the high jump as the lone River Hawk in the event, clearing 1.57m to give the squad five points, while three other River Hawks competed in the long jump. Senior Fleur Balogh De Galantha (Grafton, Mass) led the way in fifth place with a 5.09m mark, followed by sophomore
Nethica Auguste (Bridgewater, Mass.) in sixth with a leap of 5.08m. Junior
Paige Murphy (Billerica, Mass.) finished in seventh with a 4.96m mark.
The triple jump saw just one River Hawk in freshman
Anya Neira (Methuen, Mass.), who took home second place with a 10.28m mark for three points.
In the shot put, Joyce Nabagereka led the way with a toss of 11.55m for fourth place and two points for the squad. Balogh De Galantha claimed fifth with a 10.33m toss for one points, while graduate student Ali Grasso finished in sixth, reaching 10.28m. Murphy finished in ninth with a mark of 9.67m and freshman
Chloe Champagne (Brockton, Mass.) claimed 10
th place with a 6.37m throw. Nabagereka also competed in the weight throw, finishing fifth with a 12.29m mark to earn two points for the team.
Next up for the River Hawks, the women will take on the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University on Saturday, February 15.
