LOWELL, Mass. – Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Performance Marcus Williams has announced the promotion of Chris Vitullo to Sports Performance Coach.
"I've had the privilege of watching Chris Vitullo grow tremendously as a member of our staff over the past year," said Williams. "His professionalism, work ethic, and commitment to our student athletes have been evident in everything he does. Chris has truly earned this promotion to Sports Performance Coach, and UMass Lowell is fortunate to have someone of his caliber helping lead our program forward."
Vitullo is currently directing strength and conditioning responsibilities for the women's basketball team at UMass Lowell. He has also been developing athlete monitoring systems to identify individual performance needs and plays a big role in maintaining the leadership and growth of the graduate assistant program.
Vitullo came to UMass Lowell as a graduate assistant in the summer of 2024, before working his way up to the Sports Performance Assistant position a year later. During Vitullo's time as a Sports Performance Assistant, he oversaw the full programming of strength and conditioning for women's lacrosse, along with implementing strength training plans for the track and field team at UMass Lowell. As a graduate assistant, he first worked with women's lacrosse, designing the full programming of strength and conditioning for the team, while assisting with other teams such as women's soccer, men's basketball and women's basketball.
"I am truly excited to step into this new role within Sports Performance," said Vitullo. "From the moment I arrived, UMass Lowell has felt like a special place, a place defined by its hard work and a department that genuinely values growth. I'm grateful for the opportunity to contribute at a higher level, and I look forward to continuing to grow alongside the athletic department as it pushes forward and elevates the standard for our student-athletes."
Before joining UMass Lowell, Vitullo served as a strength and conditioning graduate assistant at Fairleigh Dickinson University during the 2023-24 academic year. During his time at FDU, he supported men's and women's volleyball, men's soccer and softball. Another duty of Vitullo's included assisting the head strength and conditioning coach with men's and women's basketball programming and training sessions.
Vitullo earned an opportunity to intern at Brown University before joining Fairleigh Dickinson, working with a variety of teams, including the men's and women's diving and women's fencing teams, as well as assisting with women's volleyball, men's basketball, women's ice hockey, and women's soccer along with 11 club teams.
Vitullo earned his bachelor's in kinesiology from the University of Rhode Island in 2019 and his master's in exercise science from Merrimack College in 2025
