River Hawks Keep Streak Going With 15-4 Victory Over Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – Senior Megan Brockbank (Bayport, N.Y.) tallied four goals and three assists, as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (8-0) took down the Presbyterian Blue Hose (0-4), 15-4, on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the River Hawks have already set the program record for most wins in a season. The victory continues the best win streak in team history while also moving the team to 6-0 away from home, the best road record in the nation.

"Tough conditions where we struggled to find our footing on attack, but we managed to string enough good plays together to come away with a win," said Head Coach Lisa Miller. "The defense was once again stout. A good spring break and we are ready to return home."

Brockbank, who finished one point shy of the program high, was one of seven goal-scorers for the River Hawks. Freshman Chloe Bowers (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) filled the box score with four goals, two ground balls, and a draw control. Freshman Jillian Goldie (Owen Sound, Ontario) rounded out the multi-goal scorers with two while junior Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.), sophomores Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.), Macy Shultz (Adams, N.Y.), and Kaitlynn Anderson (Winnipeg, Manitoba), and freshman Maddy Izzo (Monkton, Md.) all buried one goal.

The two sides started the game strong on defense, with neither team finding the back of the net for over five minutes of play. The River Hawks, however, ended the scoring drought with 9:20 on the clock when Brockbank tallied her first of the day. Less than two minutes later, the senior struck again, this time off the pass from sophomore Audra Hansen (Stamford, Ct.) to give her squad a 2-0 lead. UMass Lowell's defense continued to impress throughout the first, keeping the opposition off the board to take the two-goal advantage into the second quarter.

The River Hawks' offense came out firing to start the second, as Shultz found the back of the net only 36 seconds into the period to extend the lead. Moments later, Brockbank found Lydon open in front of the net, who then snuck one past the keeper, which was followed by a free-position goal from Bowers to make it 5-0 with 10:31 to play. Although the Blue Hose got on the board with just over eight minutes to go, UMass Lowell refused to let them rally, stringing together three goals over four minutes to take a commanding 8-1 lead. Presbyterian countered with one more with 18 seconds in the half, but a last-second goal by Goldie gave the River Hawks a 9-2 lead at the break.

The second half began much like the first, with a defensive battle playing out for over half of the period as the two sides combining for four caused turnovers. Presbyterian finally ended the drought with 6:12 on the clock but the visitors countered quickly as Bowers, Brockbank, and Anderson all added a goal to make it 12-3 with just under two minutes remaining in the quarter. Moments later, with 39 seconds to go, Goldie buried her second of the afternoon, giving her team a ten-goal buffer heading into the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, the Blue Hose looked to make a comeback, but a goal from Catlin and Izzo prevented the opposition from gaining momentum, sealing the 15-4 decision.

Next up, the River Hawks continue their road trip against #25 Brown on Saturday, March 16. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
