River Hawks Continue Road Trip at Gardner-Webb, Presbyterian

LOWELL, Mass. – Following their sixth straight win, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (6-0) is set for a two-game swing to finish up their spring break trip, starting with a battle at Gardner-Webb (0-5) on Wednesday, March 6, before taking on Presbyterian (0-3) on Saturday, March 9.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Junior Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.) set a program record with eight goals, as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (6-0) continued their hot start with a 16-10 victory over the Winthrop Eagles (0-4) on Sunday afternoon. Catlin, who has tallied at least one point in twelve straight games dating back to the 2023 season, was one of six goal-scorers for the River Hawks. Sophomore Audra Hansen (Stamford, Ct.) tallied two goals and two assists, and sophomore Grace Lydon (Rowley, Mass.) and freshman Chloe Bowers (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) each added two goals. Freshman Jillian Goldie (Owen Sound, Ontario) finished with a goal and a career-high three assists, while freshman Maddy Izzo (Monkton, Md.) chipped in with her first career goal.
 
GOING STREAKING
With the victory over Winthrop, the River Hawks have now won six straight, tying the program record when the team also won six in a row during the 2017 season. The streak is tied for the longest active win streak in the nation right now. UMass Lowell also is off to the best start in program history, surpassing last season's 4-1 start.

LEADING THE FLOCK
Catlin paces the squad with 19 goals, 23 points, and 11 ground balls after the first five games, while Goldie totals a team-best eight assists alongside her 14 goals. Also finding the back of the net over ten times, Bowers ranks second on the team with 18 goals while Hansen chips in with 11. On defense, senior Julia Napolitano (Oakdale, N.Y.) posts a team-best ten caused turnovers, including a season-high four in the win over LIU. In net, all four goalkeepers have seen time, with Kuhn leading the River Hawks with 34 saves in over 200 minutes of action.

IMMEDIATE IMPACT
The freshmen have left their mark early on UMass Lowell, as Bowers and Goldie have each been tabbed America East Rookie of the Week twice, while Kuhn earned America East Defensive Player of the Week honors after her first two starts. In the season opener, Bowers had a record-setting day, scoring five goals and totaling six points, both of which were program records for a player in their collegiate debut. In the second week of the season, Goldie exploded for seven goals and four assists, including five goals and two assists against Merrimack, to help propel her team to a 2-0 week. Meanwhile, Kuhn was stellar in her first two starts, making nine saves against Stonehill and 16 against Quinnipiac to help lead her team to a 2-0 week.

SCOUTING GARDNER-WEBB
The Runnin' Bulldogs enter Wednesday's game with a 0-5 record, most recently falling to Jacksonville, 21-4, on Saturday afternoon. Leading Gardner-Webb's offense is midfielder Brittany Sherrod who totals seven goals and three assists on the season, including four goals and an assist against Kennesaw State. Sophomore Emma Duchscherer has left her mark all over the field, tallying three goals, one assist five ground balls, two caused turnovers, and 12 draw controls. In net, freshman Emma Anderson has made four starts in five appearances, totaling 41 saves for a .373 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING PRESBYTERIAN
The Blue Hose welcome the River Hawks to town amid a three-game skid, most recently falling to Xavier 15-11 on February 25. Two players on Presbyterian tally eight points, Abby Edmisten with six goals and two assists, and Willow Hammond who has five goals scored and three assists. A key member of the defense, Avery West leads her squad with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers, while also adding in six draw controls. In net, Naomi Lauderbaugh has started all three games, making 18 saves for a .310 save percentage in 128 minutes of action.

A WIN WOULD
A win against Gardner-Webb would move the River Hawks to 7-0, setting the longest win streak in program history. If UMass Lowell follows with a win against Presbyterian, it would continue the record-breaking start to the season, moving the team to 8-0.
