LOWELL, Mass. — The River Hawks men's cross country team traveled to Hopkinton Fairgrounds in New Hampshire where they competed in the Bruce Kirsch Invitational.

"The men performed well," said Head Coach Gary Gardner." In particular, Sam and David performed well and it was a really good team effort. You could see a few men were tired from a short six-day turnaround from Paul Short, but they fought and ran well."

The men's cross country team had six River Hawks finish in the top 25 at the 12th Annual Bruce Kirsh Cross Country Cup. Sophomores' David Mckinnon (Bloomsbury, N.J.) and Samuel Denis (Randolph, Mass.) led the way for UMass Lowell, ultimately helping the River Hawks place 2nd in the men's 8k.

They finished only a 10th of a second apart from each other, with McKinnon earning a 25:32.06 mark for eighth place, and Denis earning a 25:32.07 mark for ninth place.

Followed behind were junior Nathanael Fondakowski (Pelham, N.H.) (15th, 25:56.89), freshman Patrick Hall (Billerica, Mass.) (18th, 26:02.47), junior Joshua Rivers (Manchester, N.H.) (21st, 26:17.72) and sophomore Timothy Walsh (Auburn, Mass.) (22nd, 26:22.20). All four finished in the top 25 of runners in the men's 8k.

Cracking the top 50, junior Daniel Burns (Billerica, Mass.) (36th, 27:01.07) and senior Sean Riley (Wilmington, Mass.) (37th, 27:06.32) were trailed by sophomore Dean Allen (Chelmsford, Mass.) (44th, 27:15.49), junior Hale Boyden (Barnet, Vt.) (47th, 27:20.74) and senior Timothy Brigham (Holden, Mass.) (49th, 27:22.78).

Also competing in the men's 8k, senior TJ Glowik (Danvers, Mass.) (28:24.91) stayed attached finishing in 63rd place.

The River Hawks look to travel to Madison, W.I. next Saturday, October 19 for the Pre-National Invitational.
