LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell Athletics has recently announced the additions of Peter Caruso, Lucas Wessel and Joe Cho, who will all join the athletics external relations team.
Taking on the role of Marketing and Promotions Assistant, Caruso comes to UMass Lowell from the University of New Hampshire, where he spent a year as a marketing intern for the Wildcats' Athletics Department. There, he helped coordinate promotional events and game day activities, create scripts and timelines for games in an organized format, as well as design flyers, video board slides, and other promotional graphics to promote UNH athletics.
"We are excited to have Peter join our team," commented Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions Jon Boswell. "It was clear his combination of experience and desire to improve not only River Hawk Athletics, but himself, is going to be a great asset for River Hawk fans in creating incredible fan experiences this season."
Prior to working as a marketing intern, Caruso interned with game management and events at UNH. Through that internship he created and organized gameday paperwork, managed and supervised event staff selling tickets and parking, and communicated by helping guests and guiding fans.
Caruso graduated from New Hampshire with his bachelor's degree in sport management and leadership in 2023.
Wessel, who will serve as a communications assistant, spent his final year at the University of Vermont as an intern for the Athletic Communications department. During his internship, the Massachusetts native assisted with the stat tracking for all of the Catamount home games, assisted in maintaining and publishing content to the school's athletic website, and updated the various team's social media platforms to help provide in-game coverage. While at Vermont, Wessel worked with a plethora of sports, including men's and women's soccer, basketball, hockey, lacrosse, and field hockey.
"Lucas is going to be a great addition to our River Hawk communications team," said Associate Athletic Director for Communications & Creative Content Ashley Robbins. "He is already familiar with both America East and Hockey East competition, and is well-versed in the world of social media, so we are excited to have him working to help further the level of content we are able to provide for all of our student-athletes and fans."
A 2023 graduate from Vermont with his bachelor's degree in business administration, Wessel will serve as the primary communications contact for the River Hawk softball team and secondary contact for the cross country/track & field teams, in addition to assisting across the department.
Cho, who will take on the role of Multimedia Assistant, most recently served as a media intern for Jam in the Van, a recording studio based out of Los Angeles. While there, he edited raw segments of podcasts, live comedy shows, and studio music performances into content based TikToks, Instagram Reels, Spotify canvases, and promotional videos. He also helped update and edit over 700 thumbnails for the company's YouTube videos and provided assistance with live events.
"We're delighted to bring Joe on and complete our multimedia team for this year," remarked Director of Multimedia and Production Aaron King. "Joe brings both a wealth of experience, as well as a growth mindset to continue learning and expanding his toolbox during his time here at UMass Lowell."
Prior to working with Jam in the Van, Cho spent a summer as a broadcast producer for the Nashua Silver Knights, where he produced and broadcasted all of the Silver Knights' home games independently on the Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) network. His work with the team was recognized by the FCBL when he was named the 2022 FCBL Intern of the Year.
Cho graduated from Emerson College with his bachelor's degree in media arts production in 2023.
