BURLINGTON, VT. – Freshman Hannah Shaddock (Corning, N.Y.) made a career-high 14 saves, as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (6-10, 0-6 AE) fell to the Vermont Catamounts (8-7, 4-2 AE), 13-5, on Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field.

"We competed hard," said head coach Lisa Miller. "I'm thankful for all the hard work the senior class has put in over the last four years and the lifetime of relationships they have built."
 
Junior Megan Brockbank (Bayport, N.Y.) led the team with two points off a goal and an assist. Also tallying goals on the afternoon were seniors Molly Shaw (Marshfield, Mass.), Grace Hansen (Stamford, Conn.), sophomore Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.), and freshman Audra Hansen (Stamford, Conn.). Defensively, senior Julia Napolitano (Oakdale, N.Y.) paced the squad with two caused turnovers, while senior Caroline Klim (Wrentham, Mass.) collected four ground balls. On the draw, senior Izzy Liquori (Agawam, Mass.) totaled a game-high eight draw controls. In net, Shaddock's 14 saves were good for a .519 save percentage.
 
The Catamounts jumped out to an early lead, scoring the afternoon's first goal just over a minute into the game. Vermont continued to dominate possession, and although the River Hawks' defense continued to fight, the hosts added two more goals to take a 3-0 lead with 7:19 on the clock. Looking to strike back, junior Emerson Laundry (Swampscott, Mass.) won the following draw control, and after moving the ball down the field, Brockbank fired a shot off past the Vermont goalkeeper to cut the margin to two. However, Vermont retaliated only thirty seconds later, taking a 4-1 lead that would hold for the remainder of the quarter.
 
The defensive battle continued into the second quarter, as the game's scoring drought extended to nearly 11 minutes. With 10:16 on the clock, Catlin took advantage of a free-position opportunity, finding the back of the net to cut the lead down to 4-2. Although UMass Lowell's defense made multiple key stops, the Catamounts added five straight goals to take a 9-2 lead heading into halftime.
 
Coming out of the break, both teams continued with their stellar defensive performances, as the two sides combined for five caused turnovers in the first nine minutes. With just over five minutes remaining in the third, the Hansen sisters Grace and Audra tallied back-to-back goals, pulling their squad back within five. Vermont added to their lead with less than a minute remaining, but with eight seconds on the clock, Brockbank found Shaw open in front of the net, setting the senior up for her 29^th goal of the season and making it a 10-5 game entering the final quarter.
 
The River Hawks continued to battle in the fourth, but three goals by the Catamounts sealed the 13-5 decision.
 
After today's game, the River Hawks season comes to an end, finishing with a 6-10 record.
