River Hawks Ready To Battle Quinnipiac, Stetson

LOWELL, Mass. – Riding a four-game win streak, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (4-1) will host the Quinnipiac Bobcats (1-2) Wednesday afternoon before flying south to take on the Stetson Hatters (2-2) as part of their spring break trip.
 
LAST TIME OUT
UMass Lowell enters the week with a 4-1 record after taking down Sacred Heart, 12-7, on Saturday afternoon. Leading the River Hawks in scoring was senior Izzy Liquori (Agawam, Mass.), who tallied three goals and one assist. Behind her, sophomore Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.) totaled three points off one goal and two assists. Seniors Molly Shaw(Marshfield, Mass.) and Abby McLaughlin (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman Audra Hansen (Stamford, Ct.) each recorded two goals, while junior Megan Brockbank(Bayport, N.Y.) and freshman Macy Shultz (Adams, N.Y.) each chipped in with a goal. In net, freshman Hannah Shaddock (Corning, N.Y.) made seven saves for a .500 save percentage.
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Catlin leads the River Hawks through five games with 19 points off a team-best eight assists and 11 goals. Right behind Catlin, Liquori totals 16 points to rank second on the squad, while Shaw currently paces the team with 12 goals. Senior Julia Napolitano (Oakdale, N.Y.) leads the defense with a team-high nine caused turnovers. On the draw, junior Emerson Laundry's (Swampscott, Mass.) 20 draw control victories pace the team, with Napolitano sitting behind her with 16 on the season.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING
After scoring her 83rd career goal in Wednesday's match against Stonehill, Liquori surpassed Taylor Sokol to become the UMass Lowell all-time goal scorer. With three goals against Sacred Heart, the senior now sits only 14 goals away from becoming the first River Hawk to find the back of the net 100 times.

SCOUTING QUINNIPIAC
The Bobcats come to town on a two-game losing streak, most recently falling to #21 Yale, 14-5. Midfielder Sophie Spencer has been all over the scoresheet for Quinnipiac, totaling five goals, two assists, three groundballs, three caused turnovers, and four draw controls. Also making a significant contribution is attack Desiree Kleberg, who totals three goals and three assists. In net, Kat Henselder has made 28 saves in 164 minutes of action, good for a .438 save percentage.
 
SCOUTING STETSON
The Hatters enter Sunday's match with a 2-2 record following a 16-14 victory over Duquesne. The top scorer on the team, attack Jordyn Humphrey, has totaled nine goals and four assists on the season. Right behind her, Kaitlin Pani has found the back of the net seven times, while Jessica Duggan chips in six goals to help power the offense. In net, Sydney Heimann has made 29 saves while allowing 56 goals for a .341 save percentage.
 
A WIN WOULD
A win against Quinnipiac would move the River Hawks to a 5-1 start, the best in program history. If the River Hawks can claim victory in both games, they would extend their winning streak to six games, matching the longest in program history which was set back in 2017.
 
QUINNIPIAC MATCHUP HISTORY
The River Hawks and Bobcats have faced off four times, with Quinnipiac holding a 3-1 series edge. In the most recent matchup during the 2022 season, Jade Catlin tallied a career-high seven points off five goals and two assists. Also contributing with a hat trick was Izzy Liquori, who added 10 draw control victories alongside her three goals. 

STETSON MATCHUP HISTORY
The River Hawks and Hatters met once back in 2016, with the Hatters earning a 12-11 win at home. In that match, Taylor Sokol led the River Hawks with three goals, while Kaylan DiModugno chipped in with a pair of goals.

CONFERENCE HONORS
Following a 2-0 week where she tallied five goals and added an assist, Audra Hansen was named the America East Rookie of the Week (2/27). It is the team's third weekly honor, with Shaddock earning Rookie of the Week twice (2/13, 2/20).
