ST. ALBANS, Vt.—The UMass Lowell women's cross country team kicked off the season strong, claiming third overall at the 2022 Vermont Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

"I couldn't be more pleased with how we raced. The women excelled with five out of six freshmen placing," said Head Coach
Gary Gardner. "They raced mature and tough today."

Junior
Mary Yount (Northampton, Mass.) led the way for the River Hawks in St. Albans, clocking in at 18:36.10 in the women's 5K to claim fourth overall.

Freshmen
Mary-Kate Finn (Nashua, N.H.) and
Dantia Braccio (Nashua, N.H.) made a splash in their collegiate debuts with a pair of top-10 performances. Finn logged an 18:45.30 finish to take seventh overall, while Braccio took tenth with an 18:46.20 time.

Joining their classmates, rookies
Kylie Marion (Baldwinville, Mass.) and
Mia Jones (Blacksburg, Va.) impressed in their first outings as River Hawks, placing 15th and 17th overall. Making her first appearance on the course, sophomore
Kaitlyn Stevens finished in 19:51.60 to finish 26th.

The River Hawks look to continue their early season success on Saturday, Sept. 17, at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational in North Dartmouth, Mass.
