LOWELL, Mass. – Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine and Performance Lainie Williams recently announced the addition of Olivia Shapiro and Renee Ordway, who will both join the River Hawk staff as Assistant Athletic Trainers.

"I'm excited to round out our full staff with the additions of Olivia Shapiro and Renee Ordway," said Williams.  "They both bring a lot of enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. Happy to officially make them a part of the River Hawk family!"

Shapiro brings two years of experience to the River Hawk staff. Most recently, she spent time at Noble and Greenough School in Dedham, Massachusetts, where she spent time assisting in COVID-19 management including testing and implementing return to play protocols. Alongside this, she also gained exposure to sport-specific injuries related to hockey, basketball, softball, and lacrosse while delivering quality patient care.

"I am very excited to join the Athletic Healthcare staff," said Shapiro. "I'm looking forward to beginning my professional career as part of the River Hawk family!"

Prior to her time at Noble and Greenough School, Shapiro spent time at UMass Lowell working primarily alongside the women's soccer program, providing care for the team at all practices, home games, and while traveling alongside them for road games. Shapiro started her experience in the field working at The Derryfield School in Manchester, New Hampshire.

Shapiro earned her master's degree in athletic training from Merrimack College in 2022 and graduated from Merrimack College with her bachelor's in 2020.

Ordway comes to Lowell with over two years of experience, most recently as an athletic training intern at Northeastern University. While there, she worked alongside the men's ice hockey team while leading research on groin injury prevention.

"I am so grateful and excited for the opportunity to begin my professional career as an athletic trainer here at UMass Lowell," remarked Ordway.  "The field of athletic training is so rewarding and I look forward to building meaningful relationships with the athletes and staff."

Before her time at Northeastern, Ordway also spent time as an athletic training intern at Lasell University where she worked with the women's soccer team as well as the men's and women's lacrosse teams. She spent her time there maintaining and enforcing COVID-19 protocols while providing first aid and conducting injury evaluations. Ordway has also spent time as an intern at the College of the Holy Cross.

Ordway is set to earn her master's degree in Rehabilitation Science from Lasell University in May of 2023 and graduated from Lasell with her bachelor's in 2022.
