LOWELL, Mass. – Assistant Athletic Director of Sports Medicine and Performance Lainie Williams recently announced the addition of Neil Ehlers, who will join the River Hawk staff as an Associate Athletic Trainer and work with the River Hawk men's basketball program.

"I am thrilled to welcome Neil to the Athletic Healthcare staff," said Williams. "He brings a wealth of knowledge from the clinic, high school and collegiate level."

Ehlers brings nearly eight years of experience to the River Hawk staff. Most recently, he spent time as an athletic trainer at Harvard, where he worked primarily with the women's rugby, men's and women's squash, and men's and women's sailing programs. In addition to coordinating care for the student-athletes on his teams, he was also tasked with several administrative duties, such as overseeing the service of and purchasing for the department's aqua therapy room, maintaining the department's sports medicine vehicles and AED's, and managing documentation in the ARMS system.

"I am excited to start this new chapter of my professional career, and I am eager to utilize my background and experiences in the continued growth of this highly skilled sports medicine staff," said Ehlers.

Before Harvard, he spent four years as an associate athletic trainer at Newberry College, working with football, baseball and men's soccer. While there, he implemented the use of 3D biomechanical video analysis of baseball pitchers and utilized the data for injury prevention. He also worked to update Newberry's concussion policy to align with current consensus data.

Ehlers worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at HealthWorks Rehab & Fitness and Fairmont Senior High School, and started his career as a certified athletic training intern at Sacred Heart.

Ehlers earned his master's degree in athletic training from West Virginia University in 2017 and graduated from the University of Connecticut with his bachelor's degree in 2014.

Ehlers is a BOC certified athletic trainer, a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, and is a Mass Athletic Training Licensure.
