4/23/2022 5:31:00 PM

Box Score ALBANY, N.Y. – Junior Molly Shaw (Marshfield, Mass.) tallied four goals as the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (4-11, 1-4 AE) fell to the UAlbany Great Danes (6-7, 4-0 AE), 14-8, on Saturday afternoon at John Fallon Field.

"In the second and third quarters we played our best lacrosse of the season," said Head Coach Lisa Miller. "I am proud of our effort and discipline on both sides of the ball."

Alongside Shaw, juniors Izzy Liquori (Agawam, Mass.), Abby McLaughlin (Walpole, Mass.), and Grace Hansen (Stamford, Conn.) all added in a goal and an assist. Sophomore Megan Brockbank (Bayport, N.Y) also recorded a goal and an assist, while sophomore Kaitlin Tobin (Southold, N.Y.) tallied her seventh goal of the year. In net, graduate student Alex Salim (East Islip, N.Y.) recorded 11 saves with a .440 save percentage.

The Great Danes came out of the gates firing, tallying their first goal less than a minute into the game. Although the River Hawk defense would battle, UAlbany found a handful of good shot opportunities, taking a 4-0 lead with just under five minutes to play in the first. With 3:47 remaining in the first, Brockbank found the back of the net, shortly followed by a goal from Tobin, cutting the Great Dane lead in half. However, UAlbany would strike back with a late goal, making it 5-2 heading into the second.

After a goal early in the second stretched the Great Dane's lead to four, the UMass Lowell defense took over, locking down UAlbany and holding them scoreless the remainder of the half. The UMass Lowell offense also began to find a rhythm, as Shaw found the back of the net only two minutes into the quarter. Only a few minutes later, McLaughlin and Shaw would tally back-to-back goals, cutting the UAlbany lead to 6-5 heading into the half.

After the break, UMass Lowell continued to play well on both sides of the ball, as Liquori and Shaw both tallied a goal, giving the River Hawks the 7-6 lead, their first lead of the day. It wasn't until seven minutes remained in the third quarter that UAlbany broke the River Hawks' scoring run, tying the game at seven. The Great Danes tallied two more goals in the final four minutes of the quarter, taking a two-goal lead with 15 minutes to play.

In the final quarter, the River Hawks continued to battle but could not break the Great Dane's scoring run. UAlbany added four goals over ten minutes, jumping out to their largest lead of the day, 13-7. Hansen found the back of the net with just under three minutes as the River Hawks looked to make a comeback, but a late goal from the Great Danes would secure the final score, 14-8.

Next up, the River Hawks will wrap up the season at home against Brown on Tuesday, April 26 at 7 p.m.
