Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

River Hawks Cruise to 25-3 Victory Over Wofford

SPARTANSBURG, S.C. – In a game that featured eleven different goal scorers, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (2-5, 0-0 AE) took down the Wofford Terriers (1-4, 0-0 Big South), 25-3, on Wednesday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium.

"It's nice to finish out the Spring Break trip with a win," said head coach Lisa Miller. "We going to continue to improve with every game and practice to get ready for conference play."

Junior Izzy Liquori (Agawam, Mass.) led the River Hawks offense with four goals scored in the first quarter alone while also adding in a career-high 12 draw controls and two assists. Alongside Liquori, junior Grace Hansen (Stamford, Conn.), sophomore Emily Stratton (Camillus, N.Y.), and freshmen Jade Catlin (Middletown, Md.) and Sophia Scialdone (Syracuse, N.Y.) all recorded a hat trick in the tilt.

The River Hawks came out of the gates firing, scoring five goals in the first ten minutes of play to jump out to a quick 5-0 lead. After a Wofford goal, UMass Lowell retaliated with another five unanswered in the last three minutes of the quarter to take a commanding 10-1 lead after the first frame.

In the second quarter, the River Hawks' defense was flawless, not allowing a goal over the 15 minutes of play. Offensively, Catlin tallied the first two goals of her career, Scialdone added in two goals of her own, and Hansen tallied her first of the game to put UMass Lowell up 15-1 heading into halftime.

Hansen kick-started the River Hawks' second-half scoring early with her second of the day just 21 seconds in. Wofford responded with a goal minutes later to end the 11-goal scoring stretch from the visiting squad, but the River Hawks answered back with a nine-goal run that stretched across the second half. In that substantial flurry of shots, freshman Sofia D'Agostino (Chelmsford, Mass) registered another River Hawks first off her first two collegiate goals. Although Wofford knocked in one final tally with two minutes on the clock, the River Hawks handily secured the 25-3 decision to head back to Lowell with the win.

In net, graduate student Alex Salim (East Islip, N.Y) allowed only three goals on 12 shots faced to net a season-best .625 save percentage.

Next up, the River Hawks cap their five-game road trip against Quinnipiac on Saturday, March 12, at the Quinnipiac Lacrosse Stadium. Opening draw is set for 12 p.m.
