River Hawks Head South for Spring Break Matchups

LOWELL, Mass. – Coming off a hard-fought loss, the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (1-4, 0-0 America East) will travel south to Georgia and South Carolina to take on the Mercer Bears (2-1, 0-0 Big South) on Sunday afternoon, followed by a matchup with the Wofford Terriers (1-2, 0-0 Big South) on Wednesday afternoon.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Junior Molly Shaw (Marshfield, Mass.) and freshman Sophia Scialdone (Syracuse, N.Y.) led the team with two goals each in a 10-7 loss to Sacred Heart. Junior Izzy Liquori (Agawam, Mass.) added in a goal, and junior Layton Nass (Manhasset, N.Y.) tallied a goal while also leading the team with three caused turnovers. Sophomore Jillian Schumacher (Rockville Center, N.Y.) and graduate student Alex Salim (East Islip, N.Y.) each made three saves as they split time in net.
 
LEADING THE FLOCK
Shaw has scored 12 goals giving her 12 points, both leading the River Hawks through five games. Sophomore Megan Brockbank's (Bayport, N.Y.) six assists pace the River Hawks' offense, while Nass leads the defense with eight caused turnovers and nine ground balls collected. Freshman Jade Catlin's (Middletown, MD.) 26 draw control victories and Schumacher's 28 saves both lead the team.
 
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Mercer welcomes the River Hawks coming off a 18-14 victory over Kennesaw State. The Bears are led by midfielder Hailey Rhatigan who has recorded 13 goals over the first three games, including seven the last time out. In net, Iseabal Cryne has tallied 35 saves with a .467 save percentage over 175 minutes of playing time.
 
SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
The last time out, Wofford suffered an 11-10 loss to Kent State in double overtime. Leading the way defensively for the Terriers is Kirsten Flannigan, who has seven caused turnovers and has collected 13 ground balls. In net, Aislinn Washburn and Ella Smithers have split time. Through three games, Washburn has made 21 saves with a .382 save percentage while Smithers has recorded 10 saves with a .625 save percentage in 48 minutes of play. 
 
A WIN WOULD
A win would give the River Hawks their first road win of the year. Two wins would also give head coach Lisa Miller her 200th career win.
 
MATCHUP HISTORY
This will be the first time the River Hawks have matched up with Mercer and Wofford.
