BOSTON, Mass. – UMass Lowell field hockey freshmen
Eleonore Boekhorst (Bilthoven, Netherlands) and
Mirthe Gans (Tiel, Netherlands) each earned an America East award for their performances last week.
Boekhorst was tabbed America East Defensive Player of the Week, while Gans garnered a Rookie of the Week nod.
Boekhorst logged her league-high fourth shutout of the year in the River Hawks' lone decision last week, a 1-0 overtime victory against New Hampshire on April 9. The rookie goalkeeper registered three saves in the team's third straight overtime contest. This marked her second consecutive Defensive Player of the Week honor and fourth overall this season.
At the opposite end of the field, Gans scored the River Hawks' game-winning goal in the 65
th minute to propel her team to victory against the Wildcats. This is the second Rookie of the Week honor for Gans.
The River Hawks will now close out the regular season against Stanford on Friday, April 16.
