10/8/2021 5:29:00 PM

Box Score WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – In a tough America East Conference matchup, the UMass Lowell field hockey team (6-4, 1-3 AE) fell, 2-0, on the road at Monmouth (6-5, 1-2 AE) on Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Eleonore Boekhorst (Bilthoven, Netherlands) totaled seven saves in the decision. Junior Berbel Rozema (Rotterdam, Netherlands) paced the team offensively with a pair of shots, as well.

Monmouth controlled the ball in their offensive end for the majority of the first quarter, earning the first two corner opportunities of the game. The home team was able to convert on the second of those chances when Hanna McKie posted up in front of the cage and deflected a pass from Meg Lange.

The River Hawks earned a corner of their own late in the first, but back-to-back shots from Rozema and sophomore Mirthe Gans (Tiel, Netherlands) were off target.

Monmouth continued to pressure in the second, totaling seven shots in the next 15 minutes, including four on goal, although Boekhorst handled them all cleanly to keep her squad within one at the break.

Coming out of halftime, however, the home team extended its margin to 2-0, as McKie scored on a penalty stroke in the 44th minute.

UMass Lowell threatened to cut into the difference in the 47th when sophomore Gianna Conte (Salisbury, Mass.) put a ball into the pads of Kate O'Hogan, but the home team would go onto seal the outcome.

The River Hawks will now return home to host Holy Cross on Monday, October 11 at 1 p.m.
