River Hawks Head to Marist Before Entertaining Sacred Heart

LOWELL, Mass. – Continuing their spring break action the UMass Lowell women's lacrosse team (2-4) will matchup against Marist (1-4) on Tuesday evening, before returning home to host Sacred Heart (1-4) on Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
LETS REWIND…
Freshman Natalie Choate (Spencerport, N.Y.) and sophomore Samantha Blair (West Islip, N.Y.) each tallied hat-tricks to propel the River Hawks to a dominating 12-5 victory over Iona on Saturday afternoon.
 
Coach Quotes: "Overall I'm really pleased with today's performance," stated head coach Lisa Miller. "We had a strong start to the game, taking charge and setting the pace early. The defensive end played well, shutting them down and generating some of those much-needed turnovers."
 
SCOUTING MARIST
The Red Foxes are off to a 1-4 start after dropping their first three games of the season, with their only win coming against Binghamton, defeating the fellow America East members, 17-7. Senior Samantha Mehalick is notching a team-high 17 points all coming from the frontline, while Kelly George is following close behind, tallying 15 points on four goals and nine assists. Marist has produced 11 different point scorers, including 10 of whom have netted at least one goal thus far. Goalkeeper Delaney Galvin has turned away 62 shots, while posting a .467 save percentage and 14.66 goals against average.
 
SCOUTING SACRED HEART
The Pioneers hold a 1-4 record on the season as well, coming off their most recent win to Delaware State, downing the Hornets 21-2. Senior Cassie Cesario has tallied 16 points to lead her squad in scoring. Sophomores Lydia Welrlau and Grace Reinold follow Cesario with 12 points (9g, 3a) and 10 points (3g, 4a), respectively. In total, 13 different Pioneers have tallied a goal. Freshman Bella Beaton leads the way in net for SHU, logging 261 minutes and has allowed 46 goals on the season and stopped 47 shots for a .505 save percentage and a 10.57 goals-against average.
 
WEEKLY AWARDS
Freshman Izzy Liquori (Agawam, Mass.) was named the America East Rookie of the Week for her five-goal performance at UConn to pick up the River Hawks first weekly award of the season.
 
HATS OFF TO YOU
So far this season four different River Hawks have tallied first-career hat-tricks with Choate being the most recent, grabbing three goals and an assist for four points. Blair recorded her second-consecutive hat-trick in the most recent win over Iona, snagging three goals and two assists for five points. Liquori saw her best game against UConn picking up five goals in the outing while fellow classmate Abby McLaughlin (Walpole, Mass.) netted four in the season opener against CCSU.
 
RECORDS ON RECORDS
In the most recent victory over Iona, Liquori saw her best performance on the draw picking up a career-high eight draw controls. She now enters the record book in third place among single game leaders right behind her fellow teammates Hana Caster (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Kelly Moran (Newfield, N.H.).
 
SOLO SCORING
UMass Lowell has scored 37 unassisted goals this season with nine of those coming from Liquori and six from Caster.
 
BETWEEN THE PIPES
Freshman Madison Grazidei is holding down the fort at goalkeeper this season, having played 300 minutes so far, with a 13.20 GAA and .411 save percentage.
 
MILESTONE MARKERS
Caster is leading the team in draw controls with a total of 29 over the six games, giving her an average of 5.2 per game, placing her top 50 in the NCAA. Caster's impressive tally of 9 draw controls in the win over Central Connecticut puts her at second in the record books for most draw controls in a game just behind Moran with 10 draw controls last season. Through five games this season Caster has a total of 140 draw controls, putting her 19 away from the current record of 159 held by Moran, as well.
