EVANSTON, Ill. – The UMass Lowell field hockey team (1-2) is headed to Illinois this weekend to wrap up a three-game road swing. The squad will first square off against its host for the weekend and its third straight nationally ranked opponent in No. 13 Northwestern on Friday, September 13 at 1 p.m. before taking on Ball State in a neutral-site contest on Sunday, September 15 at 12 p.m.

The River Hawks faced a hard-fought setback last week at No. 11 Virginia. The squad battled to a 4-1 decision against the highly-competitive Cavaliers, with freshman
Berbel Rozema (Rotterdam, Netherlands) tallying her first career goal.

Berbel Rozema leads the River Hawks with one goal and one assist for three points. Senior
Morgan Irons (Bordentown, N.J.), and sophomores
Jenna Berger (Waterloo, Ontario) and
Lindsey Kilpatrick (Manlius, N.Y.) each have one goal, as well. Freshman
Sofie Knook (Amsterdam, Netherlands) has logged one defensive save, while senior goalkeeper
Eva Berkhout (Amersfoort, Utrecht, Netherlands) has tallied six saves so far.

SCOUTING NO. 13 NORTHWESTERN
The Wildcats are 3-2 so far in 2019, facing the high-caliber competition from across the country. Most recently, NU faced a 2-1, double-overtime loss against No. 3 Duke on Sept. 6 before defeating then No. 13 Boston College, 3-2, on Sept. 8. Bente Baekers is currently leading the team with four goals and nine points. Maren Seidel and Peyton Halsey add two goals each. Goalkeeper Florien Marcussen totals 26 saves for a .703 save percentage.

SCOUTING BALL STATE
The Cardinals are 2-3 this season after splitting a pair of games last week. The team first earned a 3-0 shutout against Saint Louis on Sept. 6 before falling, 2-1, at Indiana on Sept. 8. Rachel Pereira is first on the squad with one goal and one assist for three points. Abby Ferenczy chips in with two assists. Grace Chavez boasts 10 saves in the cage, as well.

SERIES HISTORY
The River Hawks will be taking on both Northwestern and Ball State for the second time ever. The Wildcats won the first meeting against UMass Lowell, 3-0, back in 2013, while the River Hawks took a 2-1 decision in overtime against Ball State in 2017.

STARTING STRONG
For the sixth consecutive year, the River Hawks won their season opener with the Fairfield decision. That contest also marked the second straight season-opening shutout for
Eva Berkhout and the squad's back line.
